Largest In History of Nation Cast Last November Copyright by the Associated WASHINGTON Dec Hoover's plurality over Governor Smith in the November election was gathered by The Press from the election Of- of the states show these Hoover Smith LARGEST IX The total vote cast the largest in the history of the United States The votes not accounted for in the Hoover and Smith columns minor parties Norman Thomas the Socialist candidate re- the majority of these votes his total being Foster Workers party candidate got and Reynolds Prohibitionist got almost as many as Reynolds and Webb 6391 Mr Hoovers plurality did not reach the figures registered for President Coolidge in 1924 though tho former secretary of commerce polled a much larger vote year Mr Coolidge received giving him a lead of over John W La independent ticket however had votes SMITH'S PLURALITY carried forty states as against thirty-seven by President four years ago him his largest while Governor Smith's largest plurality was in Louisiana where he had a lead of overwhelmed both popular vote and in the toral college Governor Smith's tal was more than six million er than the cast for Mr 1924 Mr Hoover's vote was higher in every state than that Mr idcc four years ago the ex- ception ot Rhode Island This held true in President Coolidge's state of Massachusetts which was carried by Governor Smith The was less than the
