stomp gobs of fun By Staff writer he 2000 El Dorado County Harvest Fair grape stomp final was a short five minute flurry of activity Four of victorious in one of the four preliminary rounds that were held on Saturday and Sunday The returning champion Ned Heaney's team went straight to the finals bypassing the sometimes all important warm-up round The five teams took their places for the five minute contest Standing below the barrels was the swabbie whose job it is to collect the juice and keep it flowing Inside the 50 pound barrel was the stomper who was prepared to run kick jump and pretty much the juice out of the not so fresh grapes by any means necessary The smell of vinegar that hung in the air around the stage didn't seem to affect them at all as the time started and grape innard projectiles were catapulted from the rels The swabbies took the brunt of the ing grape assault as well as a Hying knee here and there In the end the only thing to do was to turn a garden hose on them In the background the sound of laughter occasional outbursts of disgust and shouted encouragement came in from the crowd as see STOMP page HAVING FUN IN the heat of competition Chelsea
