Decline In Quality States Money Crop Viewed With Alarm By Cotton Men Face Loss Export By Tht Press April 23 Texas cotton men viewed with alarm today the loss of export markets and the decline in quality of the states greatest money crop All agreed that Texts cotton needed improvement in quality and a guaranteed price for the product The growers and handlers met here under the auspices of the Texas Cotton association Bunis C Jackson Hillsboro put the blame squarely on the farmers who refused to join efforts to improve cotton He called them leeches loafers and hitchhikers on the sore backs of their Jackson also condemned cot ton men he said were sacking up plain seed and sell ing it as pedigreed He termed them cottonseed boot leggers and J P Maxwell chairman of the agricultural Against Gable By Associated Pressi LOS ANGELES April Violet Wells Norton was convicted by a federal court jury tonight on a charge of misuse of the mails in her claims that Clark Cable film star is the father of her illegitimate daughter The jury after an hour and 55 minutes deliberation found the de fendant a plump Englishwoman not guilty of a charge of conspiracy Mrs Norton who has persisted in her declaration that Cable is the same man as frank Billings with s ft whom she asserted she had a ro mantic affair in England in 1922 and 1923 received the jurys verdict with no show of emotion
