Circuit convention at First Lutheran church Milford Iowa Sunday May 5 beginning at p m This type of convention seeks to bring together many of the organizations of the church to one central convention At this convention joint meetings are held for the organizations in order that they may transact their business j Special speakers for this con vention are as follows Dr Ger hard E Frost Professor in Prac tical Theology and Parish Educa tion at Luther Theological Semi nary in St Paul Minn He will address the mass meetings in the afternoon and evening and will also speak to the Convention of the Young Peoples Luther League which meets in conjunction with this Circuit Con vention The other speaker is Miss Anna Marie Mitchel E L C Missionary from Japan She will address the Womens Missionary Federation and the Lutheran Brotherhood organization of the circuit The schedule for the meeting is as follows The Convention will open with a mass meeting of all the groups assembled together at p m This meeting will be in the Milford nigh school gymnasium At p m the convention will divide into its respective conventions which are the regular Circuit Business meet Young Peoples Luther League the Womens Missionary Federation and the Lutheran Brotherhood These conventions win last until approximately p m At p m the supper hour will begin with First Lutheran church of Milford serv ingas host to the convention At p m the Choral Union will hold its final rehearsal At p m the convention will assemble again for its final worship ser vice together with a concert by the Choral Union Some of the Former Milford Youth Wins Band Award At Ohio University Smith Schuneman former Mil ford high school drummer last week was honored by Ohio Uni versity by being named as the winner of the annual band award Smith was awarded the Dick De La Haye Hughes Band Award for 1957 The award is annually given to the member of the band of Junior rank who is most out standing in musicianship band citizenship leadership and for recognized initiative in further ing the interest of the organiza tion The former Milford graduate is majoring in Photography at Ohio U and Is president of the bands this year He recently was chosen as one of four band members to attend the Intercollegiate band festival at Bowling Green Ohio where 160 selected Ohio band members from 50 colleges took Part in a musical event Tte baby weighed eight and i and has been named Rich Mr and Mrs Arnold at Yreta Calif former Park residents ans pa Twelve boys all members of he Okoboji Township 4H club completed a fine project last Sat which merits the thanks of all southern Dickinson residents The boys under the direction of their 4H leaders James B Bell and Earl B Boles met Sat morning at for the purpose of cleaning the right of way on the blacktop road from the town of Milford to the West port township line Their slogan yas Now Lets Keep em Clean The boys divided into two groups with each group having a pickup truck baskets and pails One group started at the West port township line cleaning only one side of the highway and the other group started at St Josephs church in Milford taking the op side of the road The two teams met at each having covered three of the six miles They took 30 minutes out for lunch and then started out to complete their job The picking job was com at and the boys hauled the trash they had removed from the highway to the town dump The project was considered a great success In addition to rub bish and paper cartons 12000 beer cans were picked up by the boys This much beer represent ed an Investment of about The boys were aware of the law in many states which provides fines up to for throwing cans bottles and refuse along the high ways The accumulation repre sents not more than Athletic Banquet Here Tuesday All high school students who have participated in athletics and the cheer leaders will be guests of honor at the Athletic Banquet Tuesday April 30 The Lions Club is sponsoring the event which will be held in Memorial Hall of Union Memorial church Tickets are now on sale by all Lions Club members and the high school athletes at each Bob Otto coach at Mankato State fast being made There seems to be a of mois ture in the ground but warm spring rains are badly needed The last of the ice melted from West Okoboji lake last week and now all the lakes in the county recently was graduated from the 11week diesel engine re pair course at the Engineer School Fort Belvoir Va The course offered training in the repair of diesel engines fuel injection systems and fund Rural Group Plans Another School Meet At Excelsior May 2 A group of residents from Ex Okoboji Westport and Lakeville townships who have organized as a study group for the purpose of obtaining Information about schools in their rural areas have called another meeting to be held at the Excelsior schoo Thursday evening May 2 The last meeting of the group was held at Okoboji Consolidated school April 11 at which tune Noel Williams was in charge School facts reported at the meet ing Included a survey over the past 10 years which revealed tha the rural school population in the area was remaining constant ant not declining as is the case in many rural areas The May include a report by Mr Martin superin tendent of the Excelsior school of all curriculums at Everly Okoboji Milford district The reorganization plan was presented by a group of rural from Okoboji and West port townships when they met with the Milford school board this month The new larger district If realized will
