home-raised steer At the swine show Saturday morning the grand champion boar was shown by Mike Heath who also had the grand champion female Sandra Messer had the best sheep exhibit at show which was Staff Photo Die In Mishaps Kiwanis Pony Show Successful Fourteen came up three times Monday night at the Moberly Kiwanis Club's an- Pony Show at Rothwell Park Fourteen was the number of classes in the pony show held in Randolph County Saddle Club's ring and there were U entries in the heavy class of the pony pulling contest and 14 entries in the lightweight class of the pony pulling contest The pony pulling contest got off at a minute start on the pony show which began at p.m as advertised but with the large number of entries in both divisions of the pony pull the finale of each came close for the plane involved in the operation Westhues Route 3 Moberly and Harold Muehe Route 3 Moberly was third In the livestock judging contest held Friday night Sue Tisue placed first for the trophy with Harold Muehe second Picked to compose a judging team to be sent to compete later at a district contest at Bethel were Sue Tisue Harold Muehe Nancy Smith and Wendy Ward Phil Berry was selected as an alternate Police Receive Computer The Moberly Police Department has received its computer which was con- for through Northeast Missouri Law Enforcement Assistance Council funds according to Police Chief James Lebermann When installed it will serve as part of the training program for the new Police Cadet program in process of being set up through the cooperation of the Moberly Junior College A screening board of representatives from MJC the LEAC and the Police Department are set to begin making selections for the training program to get under way at the junior college Cadets selected for the program will work for the Moberly Police Department for an hourly wage hours per week and attend Junior College 15 hours per week Uniforms will be furnished at no charge to the Cadet tuition fees will be waived by the college and textbooks furnished at no charge During their employment with the Police Department they will serve their internship in on-the-job training in police activities such Two Moberly men died in separate accidents over the weekend Clinton Scott 48 419 Hinkley was killed Saturday night when his pickup truck went out of control and crashed near Pella in Central Iowa and Harold foot 53 Urbandale road drowned Friday in the Colorado River near Blythe Calif according to authorities Mr Scott was born at Breckenridge Mo on May the son of George and Leva Burr Scott He was a were to be held at 2 p.m today at the Funeral Home at Centralia with burial in the Mt Horeb Cemetery at Sturgeon The Rev Don Mattson officiated The Greer and Comstock Funeral Home at Moberly was in charge of arrangements Visitation began Sunday at the Centralia funeral home Building Obtained For Distribution Of Free Food Here The Randolph County free food program now has a building from which to distribute the food it was reported today It is the former Ramsey Market building just northwest of the East Park School which the owners are donating for use for the program The arrangement with the food program officials is subject to the building being sold The date the next food will be distributed will depend on when the program is reinstated by the state It is expected that this will be done as soon as the state receives word from the Randolph County Court that a building for distribution has been obtained The court was to send such a letter today it was reported The county court sometime ago stopped helping to finance the program Locak funds now are being provided by churches organizations individuals and some of the recipients Mr Lightfoot who had lived at Moberly for five years was born Jan 16 1918 in Carroll County the son of Charles Lightfoot and Thelma Grimes Lightfoot who survive He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the First Christian Church at Moberly Survivors and three cats Phil Weedin area youth specialist of the Mark Twain Area of the Extension Division of the University of Weedin is shown discussing fine points of youth leadership with veteran 4-H Leader Sandra Messer of Cairo as the two took time out during the 1971 Randolph County Agriculture Show held at Rothwell Park the latter part of this week assignment in the Mark Twain Area is primarily with Randolph and Monroe counties In the district And although the bulk of his work is with 4-H groups he does not neglect contacts with other youth groups Actually he spends 75 per cent of his time with adults who work with youth and lines up beneficial projects and en- courages adult participation in a guidance capacity Weedin says many people are surprised to learn that 4-H work Is not confined entirely to an agricultural setting and that 54 per cent of Missouri youth engaged In the work do not live on farms Part of the H program is to encourage such outdoor activities as camping and archery he confides After getting his BS degree in animal husbandry at the School of Agriculture at the University of Missouri in 1957 Weedin spent two years in the Army He has been in youth work in he Mark Twain Area for 10 years and makes his home at Madison while being headquartered at the Post Office Education at Paris In 1967 he ob- tained his MS degree in Extension Education at the University of Missouri Weedin is married and he and his wife Mary have one daughter Mary Beth 6 He is a charter member and past president of the Paris Optimist Club and is an active member of the Christian Church at Madison He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Monroe County Red Cross Unit and is a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission
