suburban Washington Holiday Inn mo tel The three bedroom four bath has everything but paying guests only sightseers It features a circular bed with drinks on tap from the headboard AP Wirephoto WASHINGTON Holiday Inn with rooms for the masses offers something a little different for travelers near here A suite with everything from servants quarters to scotch and martinis on tap The four bath suite has everything in fact but paying guests The operators of the inn in suburban Gaithersburg Md arent unduly distressed that no oil sheik has yet trod the oriental rug or that no international financier has ever propped his impeccably shod feet on the desk This sweetest of suites has been a publicity gold mine from its circular bed to its Roman bath Its definitely helped our business says innkeeper William Dunmore noting par the luncheon trade Sightseers sometimes number 40 a day he says They are told that limousine and 24hour maid service arc included in the price and all food and drink of course Theres also the sauna the boardroom complete with decanter of brandy and the Chippendale furniture All in all theres a lot of floor space and about tied up in furnishings and appoint ments says Dunmore There have been some nib bles on rental but no bites Dunmore says he received some offers for New Years Eve I was afraid theyd tear It up so I didnt rent it to them The suite was the brainchild of Norman Groh Norfolk Va businessman and holder of a number of Holiday Inn franchises He does something like this every once and a while says Dunmore I thought it would make a nice apartment for the manager says manager Dun more He didnt buy that for a minute Dunmore says the price of the suite probably will come down after the first of the year after the furor dies down In the meantime other rooms at the Inn start at Public Interest Researchers Lower Boom On Ads Claims For Color TV WASHINGTON UPI Over half of 59 advertising claims for color television sets fare not substantiated a Georgetown University Law School public interest group said in a report issued today The report by the George town University Law Centers Institute For Public Interest presentation analyzes nine volumes of data compiled by the Federal Trade Commission in late 1971 after the Commis sion asked 10 manufacturers and two large retailers to sub mit material backing the 59 ads Nineteen ads were judged to be unsubstantiated because they drew misleading com parisons were exaggerated or made unsubstantiated claims of superiority Thirteen other claims were held to be unsub because the stan dard for sets of similar quality The manufacturers dis avowed nine advertise ments saying they had been prepared by retailers The report which was print ed by the consumer of the Senate Commerce Committee was written with the assistance of George Peter a research engineer at Corn well University in Ithaca NY For the past 10 years Peter has been in charge of the Radio Astronomy Observatory at Cornells Center for Radio Physics and Space Research From 1952 to 1968 he owned and operated a television sales and service business in Ithaca Any one who has from seat to set adjusting away purple skin and green sky knows how frustrating color fine tuning can be the report said All manufacturers are anx ious to develop the perfect automatic color tuning device but no one has been able to achieve it as yet in the meantime many manufac have done the next best thing exaggerate the present capability of the tuning devices In a letter to Robert director of the Bureau Of Consumer Protection dated Nov 27 Victor Kramer tor of the Institute urged the FTC to take appropriate ac tion against those advertisers whose claims violate Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commis sion Act It was at suggestion that the Institute undertook its private study last May However Kramer told a news conference I will not consider going to court to get the FTC to do its job Of the 32 unsubstantiated claims eleven were made by Sears five each by Zenith and three each by the Radio Corporation of America RCA and two by General Electric and one each by Admiral Montgomery Ward and Sylvania Of the 14 substantiated but not unique claims four were made by Sears Roebuck three by Motorola two each by Mag and RCA and one each by GE Montgomery Ward and Zenith Of the four substantiated and unique claims three were made by RCA and one by Sony Of the nine disavowed ads four each were made by and RCA and one by Matsushi ta certainly know howto enjoy a holiday Leave the snifters and civilized sipping to
