annual convention of the Cass County Sunday School associa tion which is being held at the First Presbyterian church will close with the services this evening after one of the most pleasant and profitable meetings yet held by that body The inclement weather has cut into the attendance considerably but the en has not been dampened and those in attendance ire delight ed with the meeting This evening the program will con sist of devotional exercises conduct ed Rev E Y Hill and an address on the subject Hindrances by Rev E W Halpenny general secre tary of the state association The meeting will begin at oclock and the public is cordially invited LITERARY SOCIETY Officers Will Be Elected Friday Night at Union Hall There wil be a meeting of tho North Side literary society held at the North Side ball Friday evening at 7 oclock at which time the society will be reg organized for the winter work ivy the election of officers and tho transaction of other necessary busi ness This society has become famous throughout the county for tho interest which is manifested in its meetings and from the vigor with which the matter of reorganization is being push ed the present season will ORDER OF EAST ERN STAR OF INDIANA Fidelity Chapter Begins the Fall and Winter Work Under Very Pleasant Conditions Degrees Were Conferred After Which Members and Guests Joined in Banquet Not fewer than ono hundred mem bers of Fidelity chapter Order Eastern Star were regular monthly meeting last night and the meeting throughout was one of the most enjoyable on record and marks the close of the vacation period and the beginning of the active work of fall and winter An especially pleasant feature of tho meeting was the fact of the presence of Mrs of Crawfordsville grand matron of the Order Eastern Star of Indiana Tho degrees were conferred upon one during the evening and at close of the regular session the members and their guests assembled in the banquet room where an elaborate banquet was serv ed covers being laid for a hundred The room was tastily ar for the occasion the decora tions being in keeping with the colors of the various degrees A small table at Which was seated the grand matron and principal officers of ithe local chap ter occupied the center of the ban quet hall and from this nucleus fad the tables occupied by the other members the whole representing the five points of the star Following the banquet the members were favored with a brief address by the grand ma tron Lator the tables removed and social amusements occupied the attention of the company hour of
