Goughlin Again on Trial for Dr Cronins Murder Difficulty a Little Hope of a Conviction IN CHICAGO Nov Coughlin was placed on trial at 11 a m in Judge E S court for al complicity in the conspiracy that encompassed the murder of ODr P H Cronin on May 4 1889 arid the work of securing a jury was begun This is sec ond trial for the same offense former hearing it will be remembered and sentenced to im prisonment for life but was granted a new trial by the supreme court on tho ground ol incompetency of several of the jurors The Counsel The attorneys in the case arrived soon after 10 oclock For the state there appeared States Attorney Kern Assistant States and Scanlan who DAN been retained as special counsel The defense was m the charge of Daniel Donanoe and Russell M Tha defendant was not brought court until the law yers were to proceed He was brought over front the jail by Bailiffs Curley and Cool Coughlin looked splendid physical condition New of Jurors Heeded When the court adjourned at 13 oclock ten talesmen had been exam ined by the states attorney of whom nine cause each hav ing admitted that he held an opinion amounting ttf a as to the or innocence of the accused to whom he could not give a fair and Impartial One juror John E Parr a painter of street an birth answered Mr Bottums questions satisfactorily and was accepted temporarily by the state A notable feature him the mesh that came so nearly being twisted into the hangmans rope The Murder ol Dr Cronin Tie crime for which Daniel Coughlin again trial was the murder or Dr P H Dr Cronin was prominent in societies and had incurred the en mity or Camp 20 of which Coughlin was a member On tho night of May 4 1889 Dr Cronin was from his home on North Clark street by a message that a man had been injured in Patrick icehouse in Lake View Prior to this time OSullivan had made a contract with Dr Cron in to attend any of his men who were Injured It wag Saturday evening when Dr Cronin en tared the drawn by
