been issued 9 a President has passed another good and is rapidly pro gressing toward convalescence Pulse temperature OS 5 IS D BLISS The following telegram was sent by the attending surgeons to the consult ing surgeons this afternoon Executive Mansion July p F H Hamilton and Dr L H The President progresses steadily toward convalescence Dur ing the last twentyfour hours he has bad but of a grain of sul of morphia in a single mic injection at bedtime He slept well and this morning expresses him self as feeling quite easy The is continued in three grain doses three times daily He is taking a still larger proportion of solid food with more relish than hitherto and some old port wine has betn for the Tokay its flavor being preferred by the patient The febril eriz yesterday afternoon was less than on any day since you saw him At 7 p na his pulse watt 98 temperature respiration 20 This morning at 8 a m his pulse 90 temperature respiration 18 At 1 p m his was 94 tem respiration 18 Here is virtually broken Every sign of recovery continues The Presidents appetite increases and he now relishes food He is gaining some strength The wound is doing well and the surgeons said at 1 oclock this afternoon that is as favor able as could be Dr Bliss and other surgeons attend ing the President said this afternoon that all they could give the press is that the President is as well as possible that he has an wound and cannot be said to be out of danger but he is progressing rapidly towards recovery Mrs was with the Presi dent all the forenoon and he was very over improvement Convention N Y 16 The joint convention met at noon The chair announced that the conven tion would proceed to vote for a United States Serator in place of Cockling resigned Speaker Sharpe detailed the failure to secure a caucus at the start and re ferred to the one called by the ma of the Republicans He acknowledged its authority as it emanated from the majority He had delayed acting in accord ance with the result of that caucus because he saw io the election of the candidates it nominated a great dan ger He now warned the convention of that danger saying the Democrats of the United States Senate would do what they could to make the election futile lie concluded by saying that wnen his name was called he would vote for El bridge Q instead of Roscoe Applause The vote was then proceeded with Senator Foster when hie name was called explained his action as a mem ber of the Caucus Committee He concluded by voting for Mr Evarts Senator his name was called denounced the action of Senator Forster and said Speaker Sherps had made the greatest mistake his life He concluded by voting for Conkling Senator Strahan said he was not yet ready to admit that he had been doing wrong He was ready Sharpe The chair declared Warner Miller The Railroad Robbery St Louis Mo July 16 The special from Kan sas City gives a few additional lars of the train robbery near Winston last night Two of the robbers got on the front end of the baggage car next to the engine three more in the smok er and two on the platform between the baggage car and the smoker There were seven in all Conductor West fall had parsed nearly through tue smoking car when he was shot one ball pacing clear through his body He staggered out on the plat form of the car and fell ofi into the ditch Thomas McClennan or the stone cutter who was shot through the head also fell off the car and was found by the side of the dead conductor When the rob bers entered the express car Charles Murray the messenger was looking over some of his papers and Frank Stamper the baggageman was sitting in a chair near the open door Both men were immediately covered with lour revolvers and when Murray ob to handing over the keys of the safe he knocKed down It is thought there was about 515000 in the safe but the exact amount is not known The United States Ex press Company handle all express Rock Island road and the train went out last night with what came in from the Atchison run and also from Kansas City and points east as far as Harlem After rifling the safe the robbers jumped from the train and escaped The train went on to the next side track where it waited for the east bound passenger train which took body to Cameron The Sheriff was notified of the rob bery as soon as possible und he imme started in pursuit with a posse of about sixty men but at this writing no tidings have been received that he has overtaken the robbers Great excitement prevails in the neighborhood and the whole commu is much over the event J K
