in New York Chicago Philadelphia and other cities outside oT New Orleans plied to federal court today for an injunction to prevent the members of the striking street car men from ing with the of the street cars s Judge Wayne G Borah sci next Tuesday for a hearing and union officials who were served with tations said that they would wer the application and oppose it No deaths or violence took place today as no street cars were moved the commission council having that none be ed to prevent possible trouble The i council tried to bring about peace Between the two tions but Public Service insisted that they would re-employ all the men only in an open shop The strikers declined saying they only return to work when the union was recognized Several fist fights took place and three street cars were burned ly today but there was no other outbreak The strikers denied that they had anything to do with the burning of the street cars People still rode in trucks tos and wagons and paid from 10 to 25 cents to be transported to various of the city The merchants are leading a movement to stop the strike and the theatres which have been hard hit joining them No more arrived here today although dispatches said more were on the way Threat to Kill Results in Peace Bond Following alleged threats to kill Marvin Pitts J B Turner white farmer who lives south of Laurel was placed under a peace bond Saturday by justice of the Peace R C Scharborough Turner it was charged at the hearing had had an encounter with Pitts at a dipping vat and on June 17 made threats on his life The defendant made request that Pitts also be placed under a peace bond but the request was denied by Justice Sharborough By Special Correspondent JACKSON July little of a legislative nature was done by the Mississippi valley asking for an executive interpretation of the flood control act to provide for compensation for rights in floodways and diversions ed an agitation for amendments to the flood control act of 1928 The interest was increased by the re- quest of the Louisiana levee board to the chief of engineers for mission to raise the levees in the socalled fuse plug area in the of Arkansas City The flood of 1929 with the highest recorded gauges in the history of the Mississippi river at Greenville and Arkansas City ex- cept in the flood of 1927 has in- and renewed agitation for an amendatory act The water area in the lower basin was r than estimated and with the late high water year there was unprecedented damage and destruction Scarcely anv money crops will be grown in the
