election This year the hope for Democrats is that the party takes back the state from the bottom up winning local judicial races and smaller seats rather than taking out right control of Congress or the Texas governors man sion gubernatorial hopeful Chris Bell told a crowd of supporters at an Oct 25 fundraiser in Oak Cliff He was simply referring to the quiet revolution being staged by the than onehalf mile away from the northwest shore of White Rock Lake She uses lake trails for regular walks although she said traffic at the lake has become increasingly heavier and less civil Early last week the retiree approached the lake trail for one of her walks There she said she encountered a situa tion shes seen building at the popular site I saw three large groups of girls obviously from a cal education class at some school and I thought oh no because they run in packs she said The girls were like teenagers and they ran four or five abreast Aylesworth said the teens literally rah her off the road Her experience repre sented multiple incidents among various groups vying for space along White Rock Lake trails and the surround ing roads District 9 Dallas City Councilman Gary Griffith reported that several million user trips a year have contributed to several acci dents and more dents among the walkers bicyclists runners skaters and babies in strollers who crowd the trails and eliminate cheating suspicions By Sarah P Henry Staff Writer Amid recent reports of cheat ing on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills or TAKS test at various schools across the Dallas school dis officials have decided to tighten security measures during the administration of the exam to ensure honesty and eliminate suspicion Cecilia associate superintendent of evaluation and accountability said the dis is attempting to bring more transparency to its test ing procedures We want to be sure the tests accurately reflect the learning going on in our classrooms she said There are 16 steps now required in every classroom in the district during TAKS testing according to Louann Dobbs assistant superin tendent of assessment In schools that have experi test anomalies there are additional procedures she said Schools that have experi anomalies have moni tors conducting visits to every classroom and mem bers of the testing staff review student answer sheets Basically what were doing is additional steps said Just so theres never a question that there could be some cheat ing going on said the district has done some of its own investigation into whether cheating has occurred
