Only one league game has been played thus far Carmel beat Ha worth 170 Friday night but this weekends action should shed plenty of light on both races Despite a 106 opening night loss to North Central Carmel appears the in the OC It comes as no surprise the Greyhounds have not only won the league cham every year since entering but have never lost an OC game Carmel coach Dick Dullaghan who just a year ago led the Hounds to the AAA state championship saw definite improvement n his teams verdict over Haworth Our execution was much better as was our Fri day after the Haworth game We dont have the talent weve had in the past but we realize our short comings now Weve grown up men tally You have to understand that this past week was very tough on everyone and tonight we played like a team that had been humbled We dont have the firepower weve had in the he contin ued But I think this team will get better in a hurry We just needed to believe in ourselves and this game Carmel played much like the In experienced team it Is stopping It self on several drives with major penalties totaling 106 yards on the night Still the Hounds totaled an impressive 415 yards and figure to be too much for any OC team Carmel which dropped to ninth in this weeks AP poll hosts an im proving Huntington team Friday night tests Warren Central the fol lowing week then catches Madison Heights and North the fol lowing two Fridays The game is one of three OC bouts on the week end agenda Muncie North hosts Madison Heights Friday and Ha worth does likewise for Muncie South on Saturday The should be a fight between hungry teams The pair has combined for four losses totaling 17 points thus far North has suffered back 1412 setbacks to Muncie Cen tral and an excellent Blackford team while Heights has fallen to Pendleton Heights 2112 and Shel by ville Muncie South was soundly beaten by Blackford in its opener 420 but bounced back last week for a 2821 decision over Anderson The Rebels figure to give Lets talk about some of the sur prises that popped up in area high school football last Friday night Taylors 270 thrashing of North western ranks right up there and so does Lewis Cass 320 job on West ern And speaking of surprises does anyone remember the last time a Clinton Central football team was 20 Taylor has developed into a rock em sock em football team under the reins of new coach Steve Dis ney and says the skipper the Ti tans could keep on surprising peo ple if they can just learn to hang on to the ball We played a whale of a defen sive Disney conceded but we still fumbled too It was that cost Taylor that 417 loss to Peru Against Northwestern Taylor coughed it up four times and lost it three We were disappointed with Disney said But everything else went fine I thought we were up mentally for the game and with our great field position we got right on track I thought personnel Dis ney continued that wed have an even game I didnt expect what happened They turned the ball over a couple of times though and we know what it feels like when youre behind and you give the ball away deep in your own territory Against Peru we were giving the gifts but last week we were getting Disney added Taylor has become a hard hitting team according to Perus Dick Byrd and Mike Black burn Disney commented I dont believe that you can really teach aggressiveness so you have to stress it all the time We did hit well Blackburn called it the most dis appointing game in three years as the Tiger coach Looking at the films there were only two plays when we didnt miss he lamented Taylor deserves two times It will be a test for us Theyre 02 and we know they are thinking Were really going to heal against the Bull Frogs Theres no way their coach will be able to get them up to play Jarrett who put together the win ning wresting tradition at Western is a winner by nature Taking the Central job as his first head football position he gave himself two years to get its football fortunes turned around My wife told me two years wasnt long enough but I knew I could find out if I could coach foot ball in that Jarrett said On that 20 record Jarrett says Weve been playing good football Weve improved since a year ago because of the players attitude and strength plus the system isnt new to them We werent strong a year ago but we started lifting weights right after last season and its made
