cemetery John Williams was a familiar figur in Kokomos life and he was alway respected for his sincerity and of opinion Ho believed in being fran In nil his beliefs and positions He dis nothing and struck from the shoulder Politically he was a democrat of th old school lie did not believe in new fangled doctrines and fads and fancie Jn administration but in the applica tion of Jeffersonian principles which he believed to be unto emergency There was no improve ment upon them as he saw the game He believed in the square deal in poll tics and the exposure of graft and sham and was restive under anything that smacked of crooked deals in matters He was intelligent in his grasp o public affairs and was deeply interested politics and the citys growth As a builder he did his work well anc he understood the manner in which it should be rightly executed He was devoted to a friend loyal in his alle giances faithful to his family and bubbling with good humor Mr Williams had rendered service of a public kind a number of times as an Appraiser of improvements on real es tate for taxation purposes His ex as a building contractor had especially qualified him for such serv ice and he Harness was call ed to Greentown last Saturday to hep settle a neighborhood quarrel which may result in the matter being thrash ed out in the circuit court A charge of provoke was filed against Lon Har of assault and bat tery against Lon Harrison in the court of J P Osborn Due to the request of the plaintiffs for a jury trial the cases were postponed from Saturday until a future date The trouble is the outgrowth of an alleged attack upon a seven year old daughter of David Lewis The affi davits against the two men were signed by Mr Lewis Prosecutor Harness stated today that if the matter is not settled within a short time he would refile the affidavits in the court The eighth annual Industrial Exposi tion will about break even financially W H Arnett director genera of the enterprise said today He added that he had not yet had time to po into the figures but was familiar enough with the situation to hazard such a state ment The show just closed was in many respects the largest and best of any of but it suffered certain handicaps The exhibits were larger and better than at any previous exposition was the comment of many and the display of live the poultry anil pet stock far and away ahead of any previous undertaking of the kind here But the expression of opinion was common on every hand that the enter prise lacked its oldtime pep and punch many freely declaring that a fair can not be successfully operated when shorn of the features are as the breath of life to such spectacles An other common complaint was aimed at the raising of the price of admis sion from fifteen to twentyfive cents How these universal expressions of opinion will affect the future police of the exposition management it is too early yet to surmise The crowd Saturday night was all that could be desired More than persons crowded the grounds flinging confetti and constituting a scene of noisy merrymaking that was colorful and lively enough Attendance figures for the week were announced by the management as hay ing been The Florida Four colored quartette and one of the most popular features of the exposition bade Mr Arnett a pleasing farewell by gathering round his office door and singing My Little Gipsy The winners of the pig club for boys and girls In order are as follows Frelda Batey Glen Davis Earl Ander son Rose Mary Smith Laron Davis CITY SCHOOLS IKE BIG GAIN Start With Three Hundred More Pupils Than Were Enrolled One Year Ago ALL BUILDINGS ARE FILLED ZOLA CREASON Where is Zola Creason the maid of mystery Miss Creason is the girl whose strange disappearance from the place where she was employed in this city more than a year and a half ago provided one of the most baffling cases that ever confronted the local police and later on reached a crisis that was given extended newspaper publicity all over the United States Today her case no longer affords a mystery though there are some angles of it that appear contradictory and others which may not properly be printed However it may be stated with assurance that the girl is alive and well and goes to con trouble expense and inconvenience to avoid any pos of being brought back home or of coming into contact with her father So much the police know pretty lively about the girl together with and accompanied her to her Mrst destination and saw her comfortably situated before returning home Then he came back to Kokomo Zola at that time was only 16 and in experienced In the ways of the world It is also proper to say here that in the opinion o the local police she is number of other facts ail of which provide the materials for a story of extraordinary interest As in all such cases the search the missing girl was not kept up to i fever heat Within a few weeks after 1 her disappearance the matter had thing occurred to revive interest and James Pearcy and Roberta Beatty The start speculation off afresh Even the judges were B H Largent of Phoenix John Souder of Galveston and 1 H Tarkington of Kokomo THE EXPO WAS ORDERLY Xo Arrests Busy Over Sunday Though Captain O L Main who had charge of the special police force at the expo rounds reports that his men were not called upon to make an arrest during the six days of the exposition Two of the regular force assisted by wo special men had charge of the rrounds Their duties consisted to a arge extent in regulating traffic Leo E Gray was arrested Loyal In view of these facts it seems strange that there were other persons in Kokomo who continued to keep alive their interest in the girl Among the facts that have come into the possession of Chiof of Police Gross and Captain Omer Main within the last two or three weeks is that Zola has maintained a correspondence with at least one girl friend in this city and possibly one or two others There are reasons why it would not be proper to publish the names of any of these persons as their motives have been all disinterested excepting in so far as they have befriended the girl and they deserve to be shielded from newspaper notoriety Zola however has been kept informed of every step taken to discover her whereabouts as is evi by the ease with which she baffles every attempt to trace her down One such thwarting of a jour ney to a city where she was positively known to be living happened only dur ing the week just past But of this more farther along The fact is that she has been in constan touch with Kokomo during her ab sence and that there are persons hen who are so interested in shielding her that they can not be tempted by mone tary reward to reveal her whereabouts automobile and two plain clothes me at their disposal But they learne that the girl had received a apprising her that the two men wer en route to Nashville and when the applied at the place where she was em ployed and at her rooming house the discovered that she had flown leavin no trace behind Creason is said have declared that the girl sought a Nashville was unquestionably h daughter of Case Summed up the status of the Crea son case seems to be this Th girl left home of her own free wil She folt that she had good cause fo doing so and so far convinced friend that they were willing to extent ever he old fashioned had many i reasons not to care they were silk or When a colored male quartet deems it appropriate to sere nade Will Arnett with My Little Gip It should be mentioned here that there is no stain or blemish upon the girls character Among the informa tion in the hands of the police is ver positive evidence to shaw that quite the contrary Is true She has a trade and so excellent are her qualifications both as to character and skill that she never arrives in a strange city after one of her hasty to avoid pur suit without being able to find employ ment within a short time In fact em whom she has felt herself obliged to desert without notice or with the briefest of notices have been known to take her back into their em the inference that they were willing to extend every when she felt that pursuit was growing too close Had Assistance In Flight With this in mind the police have reason to believe that when she deter mined to leave home for good she was assisted upon her way by a certain young man who is still a resident of Kokomo There was no close friend sey the Expo may ship between the two His motives fully be said to have ended in a riot of Temperature readings today Noon SO maximum yesterday minim um last night 60 Rainfall inches seem to have been Inspired solely by a desire to help one whom he knew to be in deep distress and felt to be in need of prompt and drastic assistance This young man the police say es corted her on at least a part of her Such being the case the Kokomo po lice heads that she is entitled t the same privacy that any other re citizen enjoys and as far a this newspaper is concerned unless thi case takes on some fresh and unex phase of startling and sensa the notoriety given hei by her disappearance is at an end History of the Case About 8 oclock Saturday morning March 13 1920 Miss Creason appeared at the office of the Citizens Telephone company where she was employed as shp was dressed in a of mens clothing with a brown over coat and dark cap having carefully clipped her hair and announced thai she was going to pull off a She left the office and was not heard from afterwards According to information collected by the police at the time when Zola appeared at the the last time as it attired so grotesquely the girls employed there did not take seriously thinking it some sort of joke When she failed to return to her home at the Saturday evening her par ents became alarmed and notified the police Where she obtained the mans suit of also a mystery The par ents said that she had no sweetheart as far as they knew and that their daughter did not seem to care for the company of young men It was said hat the suit was not taken from her wn home where nothing be ound that was The shorn locks of the girl and her wn clothing were found at the tele office Miss Gertrude Devore aid to an intimate friend if Miss was also reported missing but she returned to the tele office at 8 oclock Saturday ON McKinley Building New School will be practically as full as they were a year ago and some of them fuller The new McKinley school with 230 pupils which gives it a large enrollment to start with It Is understood that arrangements are be ing made to install a kindergarten de at the building as it con tains quarters suitable for such work The total enrollment of the schools of all kinds a year ago was The total enrollment so far this year is an increase of 309 This goes to show that the additional school equip ment provided since last jear has been made ready none too soon TIM IMS LITTLE OF CR AVD SIRS JOSEPH DIE FEW HOURS
