Fifth Win in Seven Starts Against Pounders in Hard-Fought Battle At Kingsport's Indians undefeated in their first three starts started pointing today for their biggest hurdle of the season Louisville Manual after polishing off the ga Purple Pounders at Chattanooga last night for their victory in their lust starts against tile Pounders The victory came as every tory lias for the Indians over the hard way with the Chattanooga team lending the local eleven until the last four minutes of the game when a long pass Whittaker to Barrett and some fancy running by Bobby gave the Indians their third and winning touchdown of the tussle The game ended with in possession of the ball ir mid- field Both the Indians and the ers showed improvement over their last week's game the Pounders getting some unexpected ance in the passing department from the Indians and the locals finding the defensive abilities of the Pounders improved in almost every phase of the game over that ALABAMA MENTOR Thomas field to score and convert the extra point just be- fore the first half ended for a lead After both teams had battled through eight minutes first quarter without and appreciable gain and punts had been exchanged once Duck Dickson Kingsport wingback set the stage for first tally of the game when he took the ball on a reverse and reeled off 59 yards before being dragged to the ground on the line Dickson tried to pierce the line once and failed then tried it again and went over for the score Cifers missed the extra point Kingsport took the kickoff at the opening of the second half and with Cifers Whittaker and Ladd contributing yardage ed up the field for their second touchdown before losing possession of the ball Ladd a newcomer at the fullback spot this year last night turned in an outstanding game He carried the ball over on the second Kingsport down from the line fers converted for the extra point It was soon after that that taker fumbled and lost the ball to Chattanooga setting the ers up for their second tally Cifers took the kickoff however and raced 50 yards to the line but the play was called back because both sides were On the next off Cifers was stopped in tracks and it was not until late in the final quarter that the locals could muster up strength to drive for the winning tally Kingsport lost 30 yards on alties Chattanooga 35 Whittaker Cifers and Ladd
