Chicago Firm Bids In City Bonds for 2.6 Interest Rate Record Mark The City of Kingsport had en all previous records today by selling bonds amounting to bearing an interest rate of 2.60 cent with a premium of According to the records the previous low rate of interest on bonds was set less than six months ago when the city sold ment district bonds to bear inter- est at the rate of three percent The rate actually was reduced to 2.98 percent because of the premium City officials attributed the low bids on interest rates to the high credit of the municipality which now unofficially is reported to be one of two cities in the state with an A credit rating The other is said to be Nashville The bonds were sold last night during the regular meeting of the board of mayor and aldermen Ten bond buying companies located in the south east and middle west of- bids None of the bids ex- three and one quarter cent interest The low bidder was the Harris Trust and Savings Bank of go and affiliated bond purchasing companies It was pointed out that the rate actually will amount to proximately 2.58 per cent in view of the premium accompanying the bid Funds obtained from the bonds are to be used as the city's part for payment of the trunk sewer line already ed and the three major ment projects now under way which include the storm water drain canal the Center street duct extension and the auditorium and civic center All of the are under sponsorship of the PWA and the WPA which will vide approximately half the cost of construction The board authorized the city manager to advertise for bids for installation of sanitary sewers throughout the area Residents of the section numbering more than a score who attended the meeting did not offer a single protest regarding the project The
