This City Many Other oh Supervision Subjects The fourth days session of the county superintendents convention was if possible more interesting than either of the three preceding Promptly at oclock the convention was called to order by Chairman Howard A Gass and af ter short devotional exercises it proceeded with the business of the convention On motion the chair man appointed the following com on of the Jeff City teaf felt good of course and thinks he has the best nine In the state Its a good one but needs fixing in some i In the first sentence they speak correctly Jake did feel good but the second well if we do need fixing we it to beat Eldon or any other team in from Thos L Cannon of St Louis inviting the superintendents to hold the next convention in that city Through J J Jordan corn special ist in the experiment station of the state agricultural college of the University a cordial invita tion was given to the superintend ents to convene next year at Co lumbia during the short course In LOCAL BOY MADE COLLEGE PROFESSOR Julius Clay Heinrichs of This City Is Professor of of a St Louis College Dr Julius Clay Heinrichs for of this city but now of St Louis has been promoted in the St Louis College of Physicians amd Surgeons and is now the professor of opthalmology and sur gery agriculture in the University of Missouri The first number on the program was History and Govern ment by H H of the War rensburg normal school Mr Bass treated his subject in a very thor ough manner He gave a clear out line o what should be taught in the public schools and the purposes to be served by teaching history and government to the pupils Under the provisions of the new supervision law it will be the duty of the county superintendent to hold at least six educational meetings in different parts of his county one of which must be held at the coun ty seat just prior to the opening of the schools The subject of Teachers Meet was instructively discussed by Supt George L Gray of Gentry county Mr Gray had some very pertinent suggestions regarding what should be undertaken in these He said he wound under ake to do two things as thorough j is possible One is to make his eachers understand the course tudy and how to use it He said le expected tc spend at least a flay f not more cf the two days meet ng explaining the provisions of the course of study and how to use it to best advantage The sec ond point that he expected to em is the program for the school He said he thought he would be able to work out a defin ite program of recitations for every school in his county Other things that he would consider in the two days meeting in August are or for the plans for county graduation of the pupils and reading circles for teach The up to date must remember Dr Heinrichs is but a very young man and his is consid ered nothing less than wonderful by all the physicians throughout St Louis and this city His promotion was brought about through his diligent and ing attention to business a char which tends to aid all men The subject is taught by lec tures recitations and clinics and Dr Heinrichs has many ants He is a brother of H J Heinrichs the jeweler of this city and is known to everyone here He has a host of who will be glad to hear of his promotion and wish him much luck in his chosen profession He hai beeen connect ed with this college but five years as an assistant anV a graduate of that college ers Mr Gray said he would omit the fall county association in Gen try county It seems to be the unanimous opinion of the superin however that this meet ing should be continued as hereto Nearly all of them expressed their determination to hold this meeting this year as usual Bender of St Louis county talked interestingly on Teachers Meetings and expressed himself enthusiastically in favor of the fall associations He said it was the best time of all for the teachers to get together and discuss the dif they had encountered since beginning the term of Mr Bender incidentally mentioned the fact that school in St Louis county were being improved and beautified under the stimula tion of an organization of the pa trons of the schools This irai perfected in making many of the grounds very attract ive A continuation of the discussion of the general subject of supervis ion was opened by Luther Harda way statistician in the office o state superintendent of schools Mr Hardaway served as county super intendent of the schools in Jasper county for a number of years and had the reputation of being one of the mest superintendents in the state MTV answer tc the genera question What the county superintendent should see in the school house on his visits was very pointed and of intense interest to his hearers Although presed for time he handled his subject well of an explanation of the school law by State Superintendent Gass from 11 to the conven tion took up some miscellaneous matters and disposed of them and listened to a brief explanation n the work of the com mission by Miss Elizabeth Wales secretary While here several su have made arrange ments with Miss Wales to plae traveling libraries in their for the use of the teachers and oth ers The State Teachers association some years ago organized The State Teachers Reading Circle under the management of a board elected annually by the membership of the association This board has annual ly met and selected books for this purpose and placed the management in the hands of asta te manager ThO manager has appointed a coun ty manager for each county in the state and attempted to effect an or Supt W Y Foster of Vernon county spoke in an inter esting and convincing way on the subject of organizing and conduct ing the work in the counties Supt Porter has been successful in this work and his speech aroused great interest in the movement He made some very specific suggestions and recommendations that will fruit in improving the teachers ed equipment A little more than a year ago the stae board of agriculture at the request of State Superintend ent of School Howard A Gass of a few premiums for school work to be exhibited at the state fair The hearty response Supt GaKs request received from the schools was a great surprise not only to himself and the state hoard of agriculture but also to every one who saw the exhibit during the fair The exhibit was such a ei success and proved to be such a drawing feature that the state fair board and the state board of waists pleated the most popular girls in the city and has a host of friends who life long honeymoon WEDDING ANNOUNCED AT PARTY Ds Popular Daughter of Mr and Mrs Eli Jenkins of 413 East McCarty Is an Engineer on the Missouri Pacific Present at Luncheon At a pretty two course luncheon served Friday night at the Jenkins home 413 East McCarty street Miss Jenkins announced her approaching marriage to one of the popular railroad men of Jefferson City Mr C S och of Warrens burg an engineer on the Missouri Pacific Those at the luncheon were Misses Clara Franz Clara Raithel Mayme Jones Ethel Clark Agnes Bassman and Minnie Miller Besides refreshments a literary con test was enjoyed The wedding will take place at the
