features fill being on Hand The claim of something doing min as nearly justified as it over hasbeen in any towns and cities round about The crowds did not begin to arrive until after eight oclock and from thai time there was a steady ingathering from the country and by way of rail roads As was expected the northern part of the county was especially well represented has cer tainly reason to he proud of its baud fire companies and Each proved a great attraction The Blairsville National guard company ar rived early in the morning having marched up by easy stages With Jl the accoutrements of real soldier life they made a striking appearance The Lindsey firemen were the subject of much favorable comment The Civic parade started promptly at and made an entirely satisfac tory showing The Indiana and Green township bauds provided the music that caught the multitudes ear The various numbers of the program were well received especially an im number consisting of the burning of an abandoned chopping mill on Judge Whites Philadelphia street estate Despite the presence of three fire companies the building was de but as it was only an eyesore and not a landmark no regret was ex pressed During the progress of the flames the fire companies exchanged nu gallaut remarks and during the discus sion of the science of the flames snatched the victory The absence of Hon Frank the chief speaker was unavoidable and Eev G S Holmes of filled his place very acceptably The acrobatic performance was greatly applauded two men who between them had only one set of legs doing wonders on the bar won the purse of in the race the time 58 25 seconds was disqualified be cause of the violation of a technical ruling The mummers were all they were cracked up to be The big crowd got in the way and many of their pleasing pranks were lost forever to the world In fireworks nothing like Mondays display has ever been seen here They were entirely satisfactorily and to a great extent redeemed the fake exhibi tion given during the centennial The crowd frequently applauded some beautiful piece and when the display over were ready to go home Altogether the celebration was the best ever seen iii Indiana and reflects great credit upon the patriotic citizens who conceived and it Marion Center also enjoyed the prs of a large crowd in her beautiful grove while the sports at Shawnee Mitchells Mills and other places were attended The old soldiers were given a promi place in the celebration aud al though some of them are quite feeble tnost of those present stayed in line during the entire parade They listened to a number of speeches in the court house during the afternoon The hotels and restaurants were pushed to the limit to supply the huu with fogd notwithstanding the thorough preparations made Up until yesterday noon the scarcity con All who wished plain substan tial food obtained it but the luxuries were exhausted early in the afternoon Only six arrests were made and these were not for serious offenses There was comparatively little drunk enness on the streets and no disturb ances of any consequence the multitude remaining exceptionally orderly and easily managed during the entire day Inconsiderate drivers were kept out of the court of honor by the police ad ding much to the pleasure of the ped 1200 WHOLE NUMBER 2437 lfl ill A ilie Ilio Widely Fell A runaway mule is the direct of a strike at the Rossiter mines which oc curred Saturday and which affects 1200 men The miners walked out in the morning and the superintendent imme had he mines closed stating that a down for an indefinite period would bring the minors around They believe however that the lockout will not continue for more than weeks as the company will have to have the coal Thw miners are not prepared for a long strike Homo days ago one of the mules used in one of the nines ran away and in at tempting to cross a trestle fell and was killed The superintendent announced his intention of holding the drivers re sponsible for the mules in their charge hereafter Saturday he ordered a num her of the drivers to assist in shoveling coal and they refused to leave their mules whereupon they were discharged iho mines being strictly union all the workers threw down their tools Since then a deadly dullness has prevailed in the neighborhood and although the strikers claim that they are not worry ing considerable anxiety prevails as to the future intentions of the company There are four openings at Rossiter and all are closed ny of the Dakota r a VS The ly Silent s to b 4ives Hon Alton B Parker of New York is booked for the Democratic nomina tion for president of the United States But the many factions of that party have not been reconciled aud should they finally get together Mr Parker will not have smooth sailing The event which set the tide in favor of Parker was the decision of the Pennsylvania delegates in caucus assembled to vote as a unit for Parker This added iS votes to his strength and affected favor ably to him a number of delegations that were in doubt Many new presi possibilities are being brought forward as favorite sons among them Robert E of Pennsylvania Mr boom along with a score of others is not taken seriously but accidents often happen when booms are handled so and distributed so freely W J Bryan is still fighting No one knows exactly what he wants although it is known that what he does not want is to see any other man get the nomination It is interesting to note that David B Hill of New York is almost running the machinery of the convention He says that Parkers nomination is as sured The platform is still in course of prep aration It will not point with pride to the recent record of Democracy and will come out strong on the trust and tariff questions H a FIAKI M Son ol Mr and Mrs X Orated tor Almost r Frightened Horse Details were received this wee fearful death on their South ranch of a son of and Mrs N G Rose he daughter of W L of
