cally today when the fast eastbound Lehigh Express of the Pennsylvania Railroad was derailed on a near here crossed two tracks and crashed into a westbound freight All cars of the express were de railed and five empty coal cars were knocked from the rails one plunging clown a 40foot embankment into the Conemaugh river Engineer William and Fireman Alexander McGee both of Pittsburgh crew of the express were caught in their overturned tive Steam from bursted pipes sur rounded the cab of the engine scald ing both seriously McFayden was the most seriously hurt and was unable to give Lee completely about and the other cars of the express two coaches a diner and a Pullman were derailed but did not over turn The express locomotive which witnesses said was traveling at a high rate of speed left the No 3 track at the point of a curve at Dor nick Point on the outskirts of Johns town west of here It crossed the tracks No 1 and 2 and hit the freight running west on Track No 5 The freight was composed of empty coal cars The derailment blocked all five tracks of the main line at that point Railroad officials who arrived at the scene a short time after the wreck said they UP One hundred and six mail sacks containing un claimed motor license applica tions have been returned to the State Motor Vehicle Bureau ac cording to announcement today Bureau heads said that almost half of the applications were re turned from six cities as follows Philadelphia Pittsburgh Scranton Altoona Erie and Reading Last year applications were returned The bureau has sent out applications afternoon Mrs Mary Stake Mary Pittman Stake died at her home in township No vember 3 at the age of 87 She was born in Brushvalley township October 29 1844 and in 1866 was married to Jeremiah Stake To this union three children were born Albert Stake re siding on the homestead Mrs John Goodline of Blairsville and Mrs David Martin of Indiana There are also nine grandchildren and twenty great 5 Miss Charlotte Whitehead PITTSBURGH Nov Charlotte B King Whitehead widow of Bishop Cortlandt Whitehead died in Greenwich yesterday Mrs Whitehead was born in Boston in 1845 Her husband who was bishop tors Will Demand Drastic Retrenchment in States Overhead CAPITOL NOTES BY JAMES A SULLIVAN UP Staff Correspondent HARRISBURG Nov An influential group of Pennsylvania legislators today prepared to demand that statewide unemployment relief be financed solely by existing reven ues and by drastic retrenchment in the overhead of the state government Simultaneously another large fac tion aligned themselves with Gover nor Pinchot in his 15point plan for providing aid for unemployed and needy Pennsylvania residents through the through extra gasoline taxes cigarette and billboard taxa tion and a bond issue The divisions of opinions transcend ed party lines today as the legislators approached the eve of the nary session of the state legislature summoned by Governor Pinchot to meet Monday night to consider relief methods The legislators opposing any addi tional taxation or any bond issue flotation held that sufficient moneys to finance any unemployment relief measures are nqw in the state treasury and such additional sums as may be needed can be ed by exercise of economy in the state administration They asked reduction of salaries of all state employes a minimum figure set by several
