in the Hawarden hospital five months at 2 oclock with Sev L L Belk itt charge Interment iwas in the Lutheran cemetery Craig i Clara born at Cedar Rap ids February 24 She was mar ried to Arthur Kallsen Consideration of Conservation Plans for 1948 Jack A Armstrong chairman of the Sioux county asked farmers of this territory to give care ful consideration to their conservation 1948 especially because of a world food crisis and new develop ments in crop conditions in this country The 1948 program now being formulated will allow adjustment he said It will largely up to the farmers in each county and to their elected to develop a conservation program that meet local problems What has happened to our corn crop in this country and tha disas trous crop failures jn Europe have for grains and feed crops This means our conservation program will to be geared to obtaining maximum production with a loss of soil and soil fertility Farmers AOP assistance are urged to carry out practices that will increase yields in the current year Examples of such practices are green manure and cover crops the applica tion of lime and phosphate Pasture improvements which will result in a longer pasture season with the need for less grain will help Adjustments which can be made to increase the production of needed crops and at the same time keep soil losses to a minimum will be render ing a service to that not the end in itself production now and Sn the future is the object ive Mrs W E Bray Dies At Age 77 Funeral Services Held lLast Friday Morning at Madison S D For Former Hawarden Resident r Mrs of S D a former Hawarden resident died about last Friday morn ing in a hospital in that city after a long illness Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church in Madison Mon day afternoon and burial was there Mr and Mrs J R Bray and Mr and Mrs Harry Bray of Hawar den attended the services Mrs was born at Madison July 41870 She was married to W E Bray 39 years ago and cameto to live She assisted Air Bray in the furniture business here She returned to Madison 24 years ago and here the Brays again en gaged in the furniture business Surviving beside her husband are a daughter Mrs Grace Henneman two brothers and a sister Mrs Bray also raised a niece Mrs Virginia Krieger of Sioux Falls Mr and Mrs E W Smith of Hur dn S D were in Satur day and Sunday visiting friends Wayne Peterson of Moorhead Minn The firm will be known as Hultman Publishing company Mr Hultman was editor pf warden Independent before he went to Park Rapids a year ago He was employed as a business manager of the Hubbard County he and his two sons bought the lat ter part of Mr Hultman has been engaged in newspaper work life He did newspaper City and Des Moines and later was in business for himself at Rockwell City He came to Hawarden in Octo ber 1942 Both sons are veterans of World War II Before the war both of them worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune after attending journal ism school at Drake university Des Moines Since the war Robert has been at Hibbing and Detroit Lakes attended the school of printing at institute Minneapolis after the war and later worked on a paper
