Convention to Nominate County and the Winning Ticket Meet at Alton N The convention held by the democrats of Sioux jaunty at Orange City last Saturday was one of the best and most largely attended of any ever held in the county where delegates to a state convention were to be se It was considerably bet ter attended than the one held by the republicans the week prev ious for a like purpose and it made by Q T Hatley seconded by Will A Wells that the a committee of five on credentials The motion prevailed and as such committee the chairman named P H D T Gearhart Will Dealy G H Brush and Jerry Simpson A motion for the chairman to appoint a committee of three on pre vailed and J Koolbeck N H Graffand Z appointed The mode of selecting delegates to the state was then discussed and a motion was made to proceed in the manner adopted by previous conventions of havr ing the delegates from the five supervisor districts meet in cau candidates from each district to the convention for ratification This was adopted A motion was made and car ried that a committee of three on resolutions be named by the chairman who appointed Will A Wells D O Stone and Chas Harris as such committee On motion the convention ad until 2 p m AFTERNOON SESSION Chairman rapped the convention to order at and stated that the first business would bo the report of the various committees committe to report organization which reported in favor of making the temporary organization perma nent The committee on credentials reported all the townships repre sented but Eagle Washington and Welcome by the following delegates now causing panics among the people and houses by falsely charging that the president of the United States and the present administration ruin and disaster upon the land These dy of public confidence present adminis ration in its efforts to make the pen sion list a roll of honor and not a roll of dishonor Wo congratulate the state upon the splendid record made by Gov Horace Boies the host governor Iowa has lad We endorse the national democratic form and demand the repeal of the Sherman law and prosperity be restored and wo avor in lieu thereof as declared by lie last national convention the coin age of both silver and gold of equal in value and on equal terms To the end that tho farmers and laborers of this country shall reap a just reward of their labors wo demand a reduction of tariff taxes to a revenue basis and denounce tho tariff law as the crowning atrocity of the century In the future as in the past we believe in a well regulated high license law as enunciated by our state platforms and we charge that the republican party out of pure hypocrisy passed thu infa mous prohibitory Law which has caused and is causing the reign of free whiskey and anarchy throughout this great commonwealth Wo charge that the republican party passed that law well knowing tho outrage and in justice it would inflict and now with public acknowledgement of their crime they solicit a continuance of confidence and ask the people of Iowa to place them in power again so they can repeal the blighting fraud they have placed upon tho people Wo denounce as a spectacle shame ful disgusting and extraordinary the frenzied appeals of the republican party in Iowa fur the and the confidence of our people to the end that they may dishonor their own child and disgrace themselves and the state AVo cordially invite all friends of true temperance and good government to join with us in electing our local and stato ticket The ladies of the Hull Political Equality Club were present and at their earnest request had tho committo on resolutions lay the following before the convention Whereas the people of this state are the sovereigns of the state and believe that the women of the tho state aro a part of tho people BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the delegates to tho state convention bo requested to present the tho Iowa Political Equality Club to that body to the end that some action may he taken to secure for the women of Town Home rights which they arc justly entitled to The resolution or petition rather OH motion was laid on tho table without discussion The roll of supervisor action might decide upon Mrs Ballard then addressed the convention and stated some of the reasons why they desired the right of suffrage At tho conclu of her address Mrs Ballard said she would like to This motion pre vailed G T Hatley moved that 1he delegates be instructed to vote for Fred White for governor on the first ballot with the privilege of using their individual prefer ence thereafter Mr Wells stat ed that ho had a personal letter in which he pos declined the and for that reason opposed the in although Mr White vas his first choice The motion to instruct was voted down and ho
