January 31 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of of the United States of America in Congress assembled That the sixth section of an act approved May sixth eighteen hundred and twenty two entitled An act to amend an act entitled an act to ulate trade and intercourse with tke Indian tribes and to preserve peace on the frontiers approved the thirtieth March eighteen hundred and also the filth section of an act approved May twenty fifth eighteen hundred and twenty four entitled An act te enable the President to hold treaties with certain lidian tribes and for other he and the same are hereby revived and extended to the State of California for the purpose of a superintendency of In- dian affairs for said State an I that the President by and with the advice and consent of the ate bo and he is hereby authorized to appoint a Superintendent of Indian to reside in said State who shall possess the same powers and be subject to the same duties within his superin tendency as belong to the Superintendent of In- dian Affairs at St Louis in the State of ri with the power also of exercising examination over all claims and accounts and vouchers for disbursements connected with Indian affairs in said State of California which shall be transmitted to the Commissioner of In- dian Affairs for final adjudication and by him passed to the proper accounting officers of the Treasury for settlement SECTION a And be tt further enacted That the said Superintendent shall have an annual sal ary not exceeding four thousand dollars SUCTION 3 And be it further enacted Thai the Superintendent shall lie allowed a clerk whose compensation tor his services shall no two thousand five hundred dollars pei annum Approved 3 7.1 AN ACT to extend tho time for selling thi lands granted to the Kentucky Asylum for teaching the deaf and dumb He it enacted by the Senate and of Hep of He United Males of America ii That the tim of live years from and after the of the time heretofore allowed be and the sami is allowed and permitted The Trustees of the Centre College of who nr also trustees of the Kentucky Assylum for tea ching the deaf dumb to sell the lands here provided in the preceding section or services hereafter to be performed after de the amount already received by such fleers under the act entitled An act to require beholders of military land warrants the land officers of the United States for services in relation to the location of those war approved May seventeenth eighteen and eight or tiled That no re- receiver shall receive any compensation nit of the treasury for past services who has barged and received illegal fees for the location if such warrants And provided further That no register or receiver shall receive for his vices any year a han tbe maximum now allowed by law 4 And be it enacted That n all cases where the militia or volunteers or tatu troops of any Stale or Territory were cal ed into military service and whose services lave been paid by the United States subsequent to the eighteenth of June eighteen hundred and twelve the officers and soldiers of such militia volunteers or troops shall be entitled to all the the act entitled An act to certain officers and soldiers who have wen engaged in the military of the Uni- ted approved September twenty eighth eighteen hundred and fifty and shall receive lands services according to the ions of said act proof of of service as therein required and that the last proviso ol the ninth section of the eleventh ol hundred and forty seven be and the same is hereby nothing herein contained shall authorize bounty land to those who have heretofore received or become entitled to the same SEC 5 And be it further enacted That where any company battalion or regiment in any organized form marched more than twenty miles to the place where they were mustered in- to the service of the States or were dis charged more than twenty miles from tbe place where such company battalion or organized in all sach cases in computing the length of service of the officers and soldiers of any such company battalion or regiment with a view to determine the quantity of land any or soldier is to under said act proved twenty of September eighteen hundred and fifty there shall be allowed one day for every twenty miles from the place where the company battalion or regiment was to 13 AN ACT ning the Sessions of Tuesday in nary hereafter SEC 2 Anl be it farther enacted That the office of the Clerk of tho Circuit Court for said and the records of said court shall be kept ni Wilmington or New Castle in tho said as rmy be directed by an order in writing made by the Judges of the said Circuit Court in term or vacation nnd entered up n the records thereof and that tha the Clerk of the said rict Court and records thereof shall be kept at either sama places as may be directed by the lodge ol the said District Court by aa on er made in terra of tion and id upon the records thereof process issued of the sail courts or impaired by thi i change of the time and plice the said courts but all pro or ble at tha next crm of either of the slid courts shall be returnable and returned to tho torm of said ol Columbia which shall prevent him from holding any stated or appointed term of the District nf hio district and upon the fact cf such sickness or other disability being certified by the clerk of said District Court to the assistant judges of the Circuit Court of said District it bo the duty of the senior assistant of said court to hold the District Court aforesaid ami discharge all the judicial duties of the District Judge who shall be sick disabled as aforesaid so long as such sickness or disability shall continue and in case of the or other disability of said senior assistant judge the same duty shall devolve on the junior assistant judge of said Circuit Court and the sail judges and each of them is hereby authorized to cise original jurisdiction in admiralty cases for the
