40 Miles From Thoreau Local excitement has been running high in Gallup this week following the report that trie Midwest Oil company a subsidiary of the Standard Oil had struck oil 153U in a well located in Sec 1 Twp 17 N Range U some miles northeast of Thoreau or seventy miles from Gallup Since the first report came in a number of people have visited the well which stands full depth in oil Something like 100 barrels were bailed out Wed which did not lower the oil any This well may be said to be on the outskirts of what has been known as the Seven Lakes field in which drilling has con at intervals since 1U20 Of the numerous wells that have been drilled in ibis part of McKinley county in the last few years in nearly all of them there has been a showing of having a production of a few barrels daily The strike made by the MidWest gives renewed confidence in the Held and has resulted in a veritable stampede for leases One particular feature about this strike is that the oil is of about 40 gravity which is directly the op to the San Juan where all the oil runs as nigh as GO and 70 gravity Music Committee E J Fia zer Mrs J M Boyle Mrs P D House Committee for Community House Mrs
