IN ROADS EAST AND WEST HERE Will be Steel and Will Eliminate Two Grade Crossings on Santa Fe HIGHWAYS TO BE SURFACED Available Money to be Put Into Construction Work as Fast as Possible Extensive work on main high ways into Gallup soon will be un der way by trie state Highway Han nett today said that several pro have been ordered by the commission Surfacing and bridge work will form much of theim provement program mapped out for the Gallup district One of the first things to be undertaken will be tbe construc tion of n steel bridge across the Rio Puerco of the East This span probably will cost according to the commissioner It will be built of steel and will replace n wooden span now across the Puerco In building the new bridge it will be taken to a point north pf the Santa Fe railroad tracks thus eliminating two grade crossings Work on the bridge is expected to be under way In a short time Commissioner Hannen said as the present bridge has been in a pre carious condition for some time Surfacing of the road from Rio Puerco to a point five miles west of Suwanee will be undertaken Im mediately Commissioner Hannett said This project Is on the Federal aid program but hid been rejected by the government because of faulty However the highway de will bring the road to the standard required by the Federal road bureau and it will be kept In the Federal projects When the Federal aid projects In this district were out a stretch of about seven miles in the road from Baca to Guam was omitted in the surfacing No provision was made In the contract to have this piece of surfaced
