Billion IBT TW WASHINGTON March 12 Senate Republican leaders lined up today behind s income tax cut hoped for strong Democratic support The Senate finance committee voted 10 to 1 last night for a tax slash of that size In so it whittled from the lax passed overwhelmingly by the House February 2 Demo Support The purpose of the Senate strat egy is to try to win enough Demo cratic votes to pass a over the presidential veto the Republicans expect That would take a two thirds majority in both the Sen ate and House Except for one major change which trimmed the amount of the rut the Senate measure is prac the same as the House The Senate provides for per centage tax cuts ranging from per cent for those with net in comes of up to per cent on incomes of from to 719 and 5 per cent on incomes over HOUM Reductions The range of House reduc tions is 30 per cent on incomes up to 30 to 20 per cent be tween and 20 per cent between to and per cent on the first and 10 per cent on the rest In all cases these cuts are ap plied to income after deductions and exemptions Chairman of the Senate finance committee said per cent of the tax relief pre vided by the Senate would go to persons making or less
