on Woman and is Sentenced be Hanged Trial Lasts Only Fifteen Minutes LEXINGTON Feb 2 Ed Harris pleaded guilty here today to an attack on Mrs Clarence Bryant whose husband and two children he had confessed to murdering and was sentenced to he hanged Friday March 5 in the Fay otte county jail yard The trial lasted exactly 1C min utes It was one of the speediest trials in the history of the county Prosecuting Attorney Kemper elected to try the defendant on the charge growing out of his attack on Mrs Bryant here January 19 Con viction in this case carried the pen alty of hanging Charges against the negro for the murder of Mr Bryant and the two children were not called The negro had been brought here early today from the state reforma tory at Frankfort in an automobile while a national guard officer rode in armored tank and not until after arrival here did anyone save a few officers of the national guards men on duty know that an officer and not the negro was in the tank The courtroom was crowded but there was no demonstration what ever when the jury returned its ver dict The negro was whisked away immediately after the trial made no defense Centennial Jo Be organizations interested in the wel fare of Massillon a letter inviting them to designate to act on the mayors Centennial Advisory Committee Among the organizations addressed by the mayor were Massillon Womans club the American Legion Rotary club Kiwanis club Exchange club Community Players Daughters of the American Revolution H R Gorrell superintendent of schools Re tail Merchants association and Automobile Dealers association Members of the committee named by Mayor Ferrell were Irving Ferrell chair man Charles Gordon FJ Griffiths C E Mrs F O Humberger jr CL Baatz S G Edgar Clarence P Burkhart Herbert Whitman E F Reinoehl P L Hunt J J Bernstein and H H Ross The mayor today conferred with D W Case secretary of the chamber of com merce and compiled a list of organizations very similar in character to that prepared for the Massillon Welfare Federation cam Mayor Ferrell was very much pleased with the response he received to his invita tions to a group of citizens to meet with him and take first steps toward launching the Centennial celebration project Keen inter est was manifested by all those present and it is expected that the support of the citizen ship in efforts mystery was attached Tuesday to the death of a man identified as Hur ley age 47 whose body was found late Monday afternoon near the United Alloy Coroner T C McQuate today was investigating circumstances sur rounding the death and probing the theory advanced that he was poison ed by canned When the body was discovered Hurley was believed to have been frozen to death and his body lain unnoticed for three or four days This theory wag scouted however when severa men who had worked with Hurley on the Bayard cutoff being built by the Pennsylvania rail road near Louisville identified
