Cox chief in charge of the Chicago division the promised fair not materialize late in the flay opened with the skies over- cast with clouds that looked as though were about ready to pour out a small Niagara of rain This kept many from coming to city on the earlier trains Late in Ae afternoon however the clouds cleared away and the weather last evening was perfect Thousands of people came down town to watch the crowds along the streets view the illuminations and incidentally to take in the midway The carnival proper opened day afternoon with the big wild west show and roping contest at the far west as Second street with a ing crowd all anxious to get beyond the gates and to do the sights within river front enclosure During the evening thousands passed through and each of the numerous their contributed their portion to the amusement of the crowds The of Art proved a popular resort the show can hardly be classed a fit entertainment There wae too much of the suggestive about it The electric theater on a clean show This entertainment in addition to some clever skirt dancing etc gave a of meritorious moving pictures The Lunetta show is probably one of- the best on the Midway The flying lady act is a splendid deception and one that those witnessing it find hard to explain also includes a splendid moving picture show showing views In Buffalo while President McKinley was there portions of the great Kinley parade in Chicago the funeral processions in Washington and Canton and several other good features The management could not resist the tation however of including in the pictures one series that is anything tout refined The camels the burros the Indian village Big Joe who looks as though he bit of the 742 pounds for him and other features made up the attractions Some pointment was manifested last night because of the failure to give the free including the electric fountain the spiral act etc but these put on today Steer Roping The steer contest at the fair grounds
