School Library One of the most important assets in any school is the school library which is very definitely worthwhile and which is an integral part of tht school program It would meet the teaching work of the school at all points One reason why a is essential is that it gives help and interest to daily school work Another reason is that to boys and girls ing to college training in the use of the library is necessary To boys and girls leaving school the library gives resourcefulness in finding out things for themselves and teaches them how to use public libraries Two of the most important skills a library es are the evaluation of books and how to use them intelligently The modern school library ens school work by furnishing eral material for every subject taught by providing for interests outside the curriculum and for the exceptional child and by helping children to form the habit of reading Today our boys and girls have more leisure time than ever before it is very im- portant that they learn to lovo books and to form the habit of turning to good ones for companionship A senior boy is in our library for two hours every day when books may bo returned and charged out The brary is open from to every day so that individual pupils may be sent there to do research work teachers bring their entire classes to the library for a reading or work period During the two years wo have made a great effort to build up our to our library with the 575.00 which the A gave us We received from them in November which we spent on two subscriptions to the erary Guild one for the elementary school and one for the high school which means that we receive 24 books a year The school board gives us 50 per cent of what is spent on books up to so we have received from it so far this year In January we purchased 32 new books with this sum At present we have 3154 books in our library The past year we have been very fortunate in benefiting from the ices of several WPA workers who have been trained in book mending Practically every book in our library needing mending has been repaired When new books are selected for the library an effort is made to cure not only outstanding fiction books but also books which can be used for reference in the various sub- studied Books Added To The High School Library Year 1 Adventures in Reading Mrs M L Becker 2 Up The Years From
