edition The prominence of the article the headlines the picture all project the image that I did something wrong I resent that inference I have done no wrong To connote otherwise is blatantly unfair and unwarranted I have served this Commonwealth and my constituents honorably and well and have always acted in the public interest Your reporter interviewed me in Harrisburg late Thursday I offered to furnish him the information he requested by the following day He told me that he could not wait because he had a to meet thus 1 became the victim of a deadline I should like therefore to correct some of the in the article I DID NOT at any time infer imply state admit acknowledge to your reporter that I made a profit That was an uninformed and erroneous assumption of his The di- I received was correct figure is thirty-one hundred and in payment for that portion of my billing which represented official travel in the District during the months of August and tember 1976 It is interesting to note that although I am legally authorized to do so that is the first time in my twenty-seven months in the Senate that I charged the State for official travel in Delaware County That represents a savings to the taxpayers of about five hundred dollars expense The article has been construed by some as linking my trip with the current controversy con- Senator Nolan's re- to render a public counting for all funds under his control Such a conclusion is absolutely without merit The resolution will provide for the appointment of a Blue Ribbon Commission which will be vested with the authority to examine audit evaluate and make public any and all records pertaining to funds allocated dispersed to the Senate leadership and all members of the Senate The resolution will specifically state the names positions of those to be appointed none of whom will be officeholders I welcome such an inquiry Those of us who have nothing to hide will be the beneficiaries of such an investigation THE INDIGNATION manifested by the press and the public is understandable and justified However a diligent pursuit of the truth should not be so unbridled as to tar everyone with the same brush We must first get the facts and then judge To do otherwise would further undermine the basic tenets upon I HAVE consistently supported and voted for the Sunshine principle I have always advocated the that the public's business must be done money which is rightfully mine publicly There is no other option which this country was founded and which I have not claimed if we are to restore the public's If decent and dedicated people are subjected to unfair public abuse they will instinctively be discouraged from holding or seeking public office Our then towards reform will be in This despite the fact that the allowance allocated to me by the State for expenses and for tions of my District Office have never been sufficient to cover my expenditures I pay all losses out of my own pocket confidence in government at all levels Various attempts during the past two years to induce the Senate leadership to make available to the public all MY TRIP to and was no junket and was my first out-of-state trip
