It May Seem and There Is Bitterness Felt By Yesterday the alumni team of the University of Nevada defeated the varsity first eleven by the score of 6 to 0 This was the first game of the season and the varsity were hardly up to form while the Alumni eleven showed that experience counts in the game Another week's training will put the in fine condition and great things are expected of them in the games with California teams The game was even throughout both team playing well Keddie of the Alumni the hero of eight U of N football teams showed that be was still able to play some and just for fun punted fully seventy-five yards of N quarterback played as of old and received his share of- the applause from the crowd Barney O Hara the man of mighty form and figure came from Virginia City to play and did fine work at right end Snowplow Hunter Pratt Ward and played good ball One of the events of the day was the sensational playing of Pete McCue late of Columbia University now of East Reno victorious team enjoyed a at the Overland Cafe and all the star plays were fully By Manager Nathan football game be- tween the Alumni and U of N teams was the one event which will make the year's team a success Coach Steckle was on the field and carefully took notes on the outcome of each play First it was seen that we have the makeup of the best eleven in the tory of the school No One position will be weak Secondly it was shown that more team work is needed At times when the team all got into the play gains were fast Now before the next game the team will be put through fast work and team work will develop If the Varsity had won by a large score the team would probably not work so hard as they will now Next Saturday the Varsity will meet a team of the Coast Artillery from Fort Baker and great things may be expected The latter eleven are strong husky men and have had a great deal of experience They play both of the large universities of California Yesterday I Steckle and A Steckle played the star game and all other men played nearly as well Of course were not in the best of condition which accounts for the comparatively slow playing Throughout yesterday's game a great many individual plays were made which while good are not the best things for the team as a whole This is the main thing Coach Steckle will have to remedy The town people showed they take a great Interest in the welfare of our athletes by the number there This is what we want and hope at the next game more will be in attendance to help our team to victory Knox C Hart arid Chism were the new men tried out and all showed up well The old men of the team can all be relied upon to put up a strong game so may be confident of a majority of our games this year The defense of the Alumni team was almost fect as Keddie Leadbetter and ter all are strong men to go against All in all we are glad the game was played and hope that more such games are arranged in the future 5 ZED PILE BRYAN WEDDING UST
