and officials for Copper Range and BHP Copper worked throughout the weekend and holiday in an ef fort to finalize several agree ments related to the proposed BHP Copper purchase of the Cop per Range refinery and power plant in White Pine Jochen Tilk the new Copper Range president arrived in De troit Friday where attorneys had been working on the agreements since a week Monday Tdk said the attorneys worked on the documents from 8 until 1 throughout the weekend Tilk cited the complexity of the agreements There is not just one document but he said In addition to a purchase agreement there is another se ries of agreements on how to share the facilities remedial ac tion central purchasing and more He explained that there are good for both BHP and Copper Range protecting their own clients Tilk said he confi dent there will be a signing in the next few days but did not tr predict exactly which day BHP proposes to purchase ths refinery and power plant at White Pine retaining the 65 jobs there BHP officials also indi the company hopes to build a remelt facility by next fall and possibly to expand the facility in the next three years A letter from Ontonagon County Economic Development was killed in an offroad ve hicle accident Sunday in Rock land Township Enc Wayne Kekke 28 was killed when he lost control of the ORV he was riding after he crossed the railroad tracks just north of Dahl Rood according to the Ontonagon County Sheriffs Department Kekke was traveling north on the west shoulder of 45 then crossed the highway just be fore the railroad crossing and was driving on the east shoulder He hit the railroad tracks and lost control and went into a ditch The ORV rolled then came to rest in the ditch Kekke was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the Ontonagon
