Associated Press As reports circulated in Warsaw that Germany had renewed de mands upon Poland for Danzig and a strip of the Polish corridor the British and French govern ments prepared to make momen tous governmental pronounce ments today to forestall further moves by the axis The scheduled British declara tion in particular was designed to thwart further expansion toward the strategic Dardanelles straits between the Mediterranean and the Black seas a move feared in some quarters since Italys Easter conquest of Albania The statement was ex to give a provisional guar antee of inde of Connecti cut to White House WASHINGTON April resignation of Federal Judge Edwin S Thomas of Con whose financial affairs and activities have been under grand jury investigation at New York was announced today at the White House Attorney General Murphy dis cussing the case at a press con ference said the resignation has made it unnecessary to give fur ther consideration to the question of impeachment The grand jury will continue its investigation he said weeks ago Judge Thomas was recalled from a vacation to South America in the investigation of the Martin T Manton and McKesson Bobbins cases Manton Indicted Manton former States circuit court judge resigned and was subsequently indicted on charges of accepting loans from companies s which had litigation pending before his court Late last year Judge Thomas set up an equity receivership at Hartford Conn for the McKes son Robbins drug firm The receivership was dissolved later when the concern filed a bank petition in New York after Pay Amendments Would Limit All State Salaries to Day Rep Arthur R Kincaid Clay county said yesterday he planned to introduce in the house a constitutional amendment calling for a pay hike for the fourth such pro posal this he has a new wrinkle A companion amendment to be voted on by the people at the same time would limit the salaries of all and employes including the governor and other elective officials to a the same base pay as he proposes for the lawmakers The measure would set the maximum state salary at a year considerably less than the approved by the assembly at this session for supreme court judges for instance amendment would es a salary of a day for senators and representatives in the first 100 days of a regular session a day thereafter For revision sessions the would extend to 120 days Now the legislators receive a day for 70 days of an ordinary session and 120 days of a revision session but only a day there after Pay increase measures uniformly have met defeat at
