is to rehabilitate the boys who will go to the institution and make it possible for them to go out of the institution just as they would out of a school We want to train them so that they can pur sue the same type of vocation for which they were trained while in the institution Each inmate will be given in dividual study and treatment Each boy will be treated as a separate problem There will be no mass reatment such as is found in pris ons The first group of prisoners will taken to the reformatory about March 15 Thomberry said At present 73 young men between the ages of 17 and 25 sentenced for terms have been segregated in a separate building at the prison here and are being given psycho metric tests He estimated that possibly slightly more than half of the group would be assigned to the new institution after the tests Before leaving the institution discharged inmates will be given a series of mental tests to determine what they have learned while in The several miles east of here herd owned by Herbert Glenn headed all others in the Central Missouri Herd Improve ment Association for February to prevent a serious fire Mrs Mary Knight 514 East Wa ter complained to the city police last night that a gang of young boys residing in that vicinity attempted to set fire to her home early in the evening The boys according to Mrs Knight gained entrance to the basement and set fire to open warfare on speeding car operators in Jefferson City es taxicab drivers Four arrests were made during the evening and in every instance the motorist was traveling in excess of 45 miles per hour on a busy street One of the quartet is a taxicab driver They will be arraigned be fore John G Leslie in city police court Monday morning Officer Bosch asserts that he has received numerous complaints against speeding cabs here and ex to curb the speed maniacs at the wheels of taxicabs even if he has to arrest every violator each day and night He declared that the drivers re a certain percentage of their total fares and that under the 10 cent system they are compelled to travel at an excessive rate of speed n order to earn a sufficient wage That fact does not excuse their FIRE DAM AGES DREDGE izing himself with the various ac counts On Monday he will be on the job and ready for business Rev Max Barnes of the Linn First Methodist Episcopal Church announced last night that Bishop Waldorf would dedicate the new Linn Creek Methodist Episcopal Church this morning Bishop Waldorf will speak on the morning services in the initial ded services and again in the afternoon at 2 oclock Rev Barnes says it will be the last time for this community to hear Bishop as he will be transferred to another district in May In a letter to Rev Barnes Bishop Waldorf asks that all Methodist churches in this section be repre sented at the dedication services Ward and township meetings for the purpose of electing delegates to the Democratic County Conven tion will be held at oclock on Friday evening March 18 ac cording to a decision reached yes afternoon at a meeting of the Cole County Democratic Cen tral Committee in the circuit court room of the courthouse here A large number of members both from the city and county were in attendance Chairman Ed J Ar nett presided The ward and township gather ings will name delegates to the con which will be held at oclock Saturday evening Marcl 19 at the courthouse here and th convention in turn will name 28 del egates to the state convention in St Louis on March 28 The county committee at its meeting yesterday recommended that each ward and township be permitted to name a certain num ber of delegates to the state conven tion and that no delegates be nam ed at large The committees rec will be considered when the convention meets next Saturday night however and I intend to pay close attention to the taxicabs n the future Bosch asserted The dredge boat at the Jefferson City Sand Co narrowly escaped being destroyed by fire about 10 oclock Saturday morning when a blaze was started apparently from sparks off an acetylene torch which had been used on board the boat at some repair work The timely ar rival of the trucks and the use a glass ball containing about a quart quart of liquid chemicals was thrown down a hatchway The boat then was closed up and the chemicals did the rest of the work The fire was smothered Had the blaze
