1913 And a Year Later By The National Congress Mothers Day which is being ob served today came Into being In 1906 but the first formal observance occurred in Philadelphia In 1908 The founder was Miss Anna Jar vis of Philadelphia The day was recognized by the Pennsylvania legislature In 1913 and by the Con gress a year later In connection with the vance of the day this year Miss Jarvis has written the following account of the inspiration of Mothers Day Alexandria lh Secretary of Agriculture Henry A Wallace today struck a blow for the New Deal agricultural policies in Huey Longs home state ofj
