Democrat And Standard, The (Newspaper) - June 17, 1902, Coshocton, Ohio DEMOCRAT COSHOCTON OHIO TUESDAY JUNE 17 1902 New Series Volume i No 47 BOAID OF Issues the Following Card to the Public Application For the off That Body to he Made to the State Board late General Assembly of Ohio passed a law known as the Longworth law creating a Board of Review for cities The Board of the city of Coshocton was duly appointed by the State Board of Appraisers and Assessors and and began to perform their duties on Monday June 2nd 1902 It appearing that the citizens of this I community have an opinion that the I sitting of said Board would be to the tax payers the Board takes occasion to say that in deference I to the wishes of the public they I agree to make application to dissolve said Board at once We also desire to state at this time that no member of this Board of Re- view nor the secretary of said Board has at any time asked suggested or in any manner made known to the Board of County Commissioners who under the statute regulate the salary of said Board of Review the sation said Board of Review was to re- nor the time that said Board of Review was to have been in Verv GEO Al HAY GEO TV M SMITH Coshocton O June 12 Special Notice to Citizen's Telephone Co Subscribers The directors of the Citizens Tele- phone Co are pleased to announce a proposition pertaining to residence service that did not appear in the ter to its patrons a few days that is after July 1st they will give those who are willing to go on a party Tine rate of SI per month with the same service and privileges granted those paving the higher rates providing there are two or three at the most on the same lines and on the same lead We hope the public will appreciate our to give the very best vice least and now taat we know the old rates will not pay the debts and interest on and allow any dividends on its stock we feel that public when they understand the conditions fully and find that our proposed advanced rates and free service over the county are still lower than in towns of like size over the State will sanction the move of the management for rates that are fair and reasonable We are confident that most of our people have not considered the ex- tensive service offered by oar com- Besides the seven hundred phones our and surroundings we also furnish service of seven hundred phones belonging to the Farmers Merchants company extending all over the county free to all subscribers We claim that no other company in the state offers equal service for the verv nominal fee we ask There has been this condition con- fronting the company for the past two unexpectedly large and increasing demand for phones and a better service These with the labor and material necessary have had to be paid for and some seventy of our citizens have taken stock in the company Since the storm of April a year ago we have virtually rebuilt the plant within the city using apparatus of the latest and finest construction and the most approved material all much more expensive than the old The company needs money to meet its crowing We win therefore offer for a short time stock in the company for sale at par Let each phone user take a few shares and assist in building up a iome If all our phone users were stock holders would be getting service at cost for whatever amount was paid above necessary running ex- penses would return to stock holders in for none of the directors draw any salary for their Those using or wanting phones should remember that they were not able to get from the Bell company be- fore the home company started such rates as we are now offering and a little thought should suggest the son for said company putting in phones free for several years and later charging but a mere nominal rate Wouldn't it be better judgment and economy in the long run to pay a fair price for a good and extensive service in this community than to encourage a foreign company giving prices for a time and for a purpose and with only a very limited local We think so and can hardly con- how a contrary conclusion could be drawn from the facts and tions prevailing THE CITIZENS
