circulation of books this year than ever and the library enjoyed a good year in every particular HAD NARROW ESCAPE Prank Miller had a narrow escape from serious injury when the bung in which he was riding to town w struck by Andrew aut Monday night The collision at one of the turns on the road goin northeast from town Because of th turn neither party saw the other i time to avert the crash although Mr Miller had pulled his team from th the road far enough so that the horse were unhurt The collision threw him from the buggy and in alighting on lis shoulders and back he sustained bruises and strains that make it rather difficult for him to get around wheel of the buggy was demolished Warner who was riding with Hr Miller escaped uninjured Both were at once brought to town by Mr Markusen in his car It is lucky that there were no more serious con- sequences resulting from the accident HIGH DOWNS SCORE Miss Florence Baker of Jeffries Minn left Monday after a few days visit with decidedly one-sided throughout and for that reason lacked the pep to make it very exciting for the spectators and rooters on the The visitors had the game n their pocket almost from the start or the opposing team were y on the offensive and thus were given no chance to score The credit of a victory from the Onawa team gives rise to much jubilation within he circles of the local high school for memory has it that the Onawa school in former years was numbered among the hardest gridiron fighters in west Iowa and but little gain could be made on their well fortified goal Thus the drastic defeat meted out to them in Saturday game will give the locals a mighty fine standing and a pre-eminent position in the high school foot ball teams in this section of the state and they will go down in high school history as having given Onawa the the worst beating of any eleven that ever trained from the local pus The local team had things coining their way from the start Capt Lyle Stribly won the toss and received the ball at the south goal The failure of an attempted forward pass lort the ball to Onawa but they regained it in the next play on a fumble and Lyle took t down the line for a touchdown scored the second touchdown after a successful end run Van louten and Cutchall each accomplished he feat in a like manner Copeland accepted a forward pass from Barron and with ease scored the final small boy he moved with his family to Indiana where he grew to In 1853 he was married to Susan Neal To them were born four daughters and four sons all of whom survive Mrs Florence L Crowther of Santa Anna OI Mrs Mary I Wright of Niobrara Neb Wm W Lambert of Seattle Wash James L Lambert of Vermillion S D Mrs Estella son of Litchfield Neb Mrs Beile Waxier of Kingsley Omar A Lambert of Chicago and Grant M Lambert of Lake Side Neb In 1856 he and his family moved toi Winneshiek county this state ami ten i years later they settled on his i stead on Union Ridge north of town In 1885 he moved to Correctionville His first wife having died in 1889 he was married a second time in 1892 to Abigail Samuels of Kingsley For the past two years he had been residing at the home of his son J L Lambert in Vermillion S D On the morning of Sept last when one of the members of the family went to his room to call him to the morning meal it was discovered that during the night his spirit had left its earthly dwelling for the Heavenly home His age ai the time of death vas 82 years nine months and 21 days A short funeral service was held in the home after which the rem ains i were brought here by train Last Friday at p m funeral services were held in the M E church here in charge of the Rev Patterson of Pierson Interment was made in the family lot in the local cemetery The deceased was a kind and loving husband and father and aa earnest and thorough Christian His relatives have the consolation of ing that he awaits upon the further shore their coming to join him We wish to express our
