STRICKEN OK DIES Death came to L P Adams one of the pioneer residents of this town very suddenly last Thursday night He was stricken with apoplexy while en route home from Sioux City where IIP had spent a day on business Al though he reached home before his death he lingered but a few minutes after arriving home and did not re- cover from the state of coma into which he had fallen on the train The funeral was held Sunday after- noon at the Congregational churcn Hundreds attended members of the GAR Relief corps Odd Fellows and turning out in large num bers The floral tributes were many aad beautiful Services were con du ted by Rev G A McKmley by Rev A Jamieson Pall bearers were Comrades S E Rowse 13 D Battin H B James w S Sargent and James Lucius Porter Adams was born at Falls Ohio April 11 1847 He died at Correctionville Iowa December 11 1913 at the age of 66 years S months At the outbreak of the Civil War Mr Adams then a young boy ng m the state of Wisconsin fired with patriotism and enlisted n the army at the age of sixteen in Company F Wisconsin ry and was engaged in active ce for three years At the close of the war Mr Adams followed the pursuit of carpentering for some ime however for several years he iss conducted a successful business of real estate insurance and pension Commissioner Mr Adams mov ed to Correct on in 1882 and with the exception of ten months spent in the south he has been a resident of this place continuously until the time of his death Mr Adams was married January 1884 to Miss Laura To his union were born two children Morrill and Genevieve the latter of j whom died at the age of five J years the former is left to cheer the declining years of his mother who is bereft of a loving companion of so many years Mr was a man admired by who knew him He was a gen of the old school His walk in life was exemplary and such that CHURCHES TO CELEBRATE none could cast a slur Ills A IA ing kindness and courtesy will always I IMA Id be remembered by both young and I innv IW old He wan Identified with the best interests of his home town nnd has served In the capacity of Mayor Justice of the Peace and manr other ways III health for many has prevented him from engaging in ac tive pursuit yet it did not cause him to lose interest in matters of the com and nation that engross the minds of patriotic citizens He was an honored member of the G A R also a valued brother in the Odd Fellow and the Fraternities The day before his death he made a business trip to Sioux City and was seen on the streets of for the last time Returning home on the train last Thursday even Ing some friends from this -ity ed his feebleness and gave him their kindly assistance but no one realized the end was so near He had suffered a stroke of paralysis and a few mui utes after reaching home he passed quietly away The funeral services were held at the Congregational church and were conducted by Rev G A McKinley assisted by Rev A Jamieson A quartette composed of Miss Miss Martha Meachem H W Krieger and T B Mor ris sang Nearer My God to Thee and With Me and Miss munds rendered Lead Kindly Light accompanied on the piano by Mrs W H Thompson CARD OF Volkert and P W Bruene have ued in this community since they were born and Henry Volkert and P W Bruene are former ille 111 residents but spent several years here and have many friends The chunhes
