the stand in her hus bands defense today after Dist Judge J D Todd Jr overruled a defense motion to dismiss the burglary charge against Stevens a former sheriff Mrs the court her husband was home between 1 am and 3 am last Feb 25 the morning of the safe burglary at Plenums Grocery Two additional witnesses were Dist Atty Sam L Jones Jr in the trial this morn ing The stale had announced yes that it rested Its case Character Witnesses Following testimony by the two states witnesses the defense be gan presentation of its case Six teen character witnesses were called by the defense and then two sheriffs officers and a form er deputy testified Mrs Stevens took the stand be News Service Corpus Christ boy died of head injuries received early today in a car truck crash on Highway 281 just north of here The child Alberto Uresti was the son of Mr and Mrs Uresti of 2701 Christi The crash occurred about am and the boy died mately one hour later in Brooks County Hospital at Falfurrias Mrs Uresti was admitted to the hospital with cuts about her body but her condition was not believed serious None of the other persons involved in the crash was injured M E Hill Brooks County de sheriff said unusual circum stances surrounded tlie accident Hill said the car was facing south and parked on the csl shoulder of tiie roadway where Uresti was changing a flat tire The truck involved was head ed When Gun Discharges Joyce M Lister Fifteenth was wounded in the left side about noon today when a 22 calibre pistol she was cleaning accident ally discharged She was taken to Spohn Hospital where was not im A hospital spokesman said the bullet entered the left side and came out through tho back Police were investigating anc were not immediately available for comment Hospital spokesmen however said the firing of the gun was accidental fore the noon recess today She testified that her husband came home about 1 am in the morning of Feb 25 and went to bed about She said there were no telephone conversations until about 3 am when Stevens got a call said he was going to Plemons Grocery and left He came in again about 6 am Mrs Stevens said and slept until she awakened him about He left shortly after 9 and neither made nor received any telephone calls during this period she said Two other defense witnesses this morning Deputy Domingo Pena and former deputy Hugh Crawley testified concerning Jim Corleys efficiency as a radio dispatcher Crawley said that he found Cor ley drinking on the job and asked him to go home the night before Corley resigned Pena told occasions when he believed Corley was intoxicated He referred to the night before Corleys resignation and to another occasion when Corley was re ported drunk in front of local un ion hall Found Asleep Pena said the night Corley was drinking on the job Corley was asleep with the radio go ing and the phones ringing when Pena and Stevens his partner for the night walked into the dis patchers office Pena said he did not consider Corley a good accurate dispatcher and said that notations he made on the log would have been inac curate probably if Corley were drinking and accurate if he had not been drinking E W Britt mg equipment Club Raids State liquor agents city police and Texas Rangers raided five bottle clubs in the city and county last night arresting five persons liquor and gam bling equipment The four men accused them chiefly of con spiring to restrain national adver from placing advertising copy direct with media without employing an advertising agency and lo fix the rate of agency com missions Named as defendants were the American Association of American er Publishers Association Pub Association of New York City Associated Business Publi cations Inc Periodical Publish ers Association of America and Agricultural Publishers Associa tion The government is opposed to the practice of newspapers and other publications of accrediting about 300 advertising agencies These agencies receive a 15 per cent discount on advertising placed in newspapers and other media The agency retains the 15 per cent Atty Gsn Herbert Brown ell Jr announced yesterday in DCS Moines that the suit would be filed today The government complaint charged a series of conspiracies by the defendants One effect the alleged con it said was to sub lessen competition among members of the can Association of Advertising
