given a two 2 percent salary raise beginning with the 198687 fiscal year July 11986 A public hearing on the boards J recommendation will be conducted on Friday Dec 20 at pm in the court room of the courthouse in Cor ning Pursuant to law the compensation board will be in charge of reviewing the salaries of each elected county of annually and giving its salary I recommendations to the board of supervisors The supervisors then can either certify the salaries as given to them by the compensation board or lower them The board can not in crease the The compensation board recom include County board Santa free movie Saturday for kiddies Children will have a double treat this Saturday when the Chamber of Commerce hosts a free movie at the American Theatre and when Santa Claus visits at his local headquarters The free Christmas Story will be shown at 1 pm Santa will be at his local Santas House from 2 to 4 pm so youngsters can visit with him at 6th and Davis There will be re for shoppers at his home during that time Friday night will be Ladies Night at participating Chamber businesses Merchants will be offering discounts special incentives for women shoppers from 6 to 8 pm Also the Dec 15 showing Albert Crow for 18 years announced this week he plans to put the facility up for sale He cited changes in the movie in dustry economic conditions and his health as influencing his decision to step aside I hate to heat the place for no one to show up he said last week Attendance has dwindled to only a handful when the theatre is open Friday Saturday and Sunday nights Crow said he was forced to turn patrons away from some of the popular wildlife films less than a decade ago With an eye toward retirement the theater owner and operator said he can point to four major fac tors in his decision The rapid im provement in video cassette recor der technology the onset of cable television a decline in the economy of the area and his health Crow and his wife Bernadine have of the theatre personally with help from high school students needing part time work Every Friday Satur day and Sunday nights the Crows have opened their business doors to the community hoping to provide another avenue of enter Crow recognizes the importance of having a theatre in a small town but said its someone elses turn to run the show He hopes to find a buyer for the facility which has entertained generations of Corning residents The VCR sales and rental market have been strong com petition Crow pointed out and the recent expansion of cable television in Corning also has resulted in a dent in theatre atten dance Some of our biggest draws used to be the wildlife films Now all anyone has to do is flip a chan nel on TV and they can see the same thing he said Crow has handled chores as Adams County Clerk of Court for 31 years with 18 of those being double on weekends with the theatre EtCetera Pressure clinic The Adams County Public Health Agency will hold a blood pressure clinic at the Community Center on Tuesday Dec 17 from 1 to 3 pm Corn sale Adams County has received 3660750 from the sale of 3245 bushels of corn in crop sharing with Rob Russell at the former Adams County Board of Super visors has been advised that e petition for Unit Determination and Bargaining Representative Deter has been filed with the State of Iowa Public Employment Relations Board pursuant to the Public Employment Relations Act Last month Adams County secon dary road workers signed the petition during a meeting with Richard Williams a representative of Local 2003 of Reynolds la The supervisors were requested to forward to the PER board within seven days an organizational chart of the employers operation and a list of employees and their job classifications in the unit alleged as appropriate in the petition In the letter to the supervisors PER Board Chairman John E Beamer said This list will be used by the board in verifying the showing of interest as submitted by the Beamers letter continued Cases on bargaining unit deter may be informally settled at any time prior to a hearing In the event that informal settlement is reached with the petitioner on an ap unit an original and one copy of the enclosed Stipulation of Bargaining Unit form should be sent the Board for approval at the earliest possible date If agreement is not reached in formally by Dec 29 1985 the Board will schedule a hearing In that event the Board statement of position on the appropriate unit or notification of the progress towards the informal settlement Council approves bid The City Council of the area The Iowa Lottery Act passed last year by the Legislature establishes regional councils which follow boundaries of the 15 merged area school districts According to Turner the council will 8 which Corning Prescott Car bon Nodaway Bridgewater Villisca and Elliott Music concerts The Music Department of the Corning Junior and Senior High School has set Monday Dec 16 at pm for the High School Christmas Concert and Wed Dec 18 at pm for the Junior High Christmas Con cert Groups to be performing include the high school mixed choir Swing Choir girls chorus boys chorus band and the junior high band and chorus These groups have been preparing this fall for their programs and will perform old favorites as well as some new and different Christmas songs We hope you will plan to in
