Travis Corning Mrs Almeda Eggleston Corning Obituaries MABEL ANN WILHELM Mabel Ann Wilhelm was born Jan 10 1915 in County Neb J and Anna W Lemmermann Heather and passed away Aug 11985 Sha grew up in Otoe Coun ty attended rural schools and graduated from Douglas High School Sha attended the University of Nebraska and taught school for two years During this time she met her future husband at a church function On May 23 1938 she married Wilson Wilhelm They farmed in Nebraska untO moving to Iowa in 1939 They farmed near Hawleyville Essex Elliott and in 1949 they moved to the farm southeast of Villisca where Mabel served as 4H leader for many years served on several county committees and was an honorary alumni 4H member The was com destroyed by a tor nado June 7 1984 They rebuilt the and moved into their new home in Nov 1984 which Mabel enjoyed until her death She was baptized as an infant in the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Nebraska and was a member of the First Pres Church in Villisca In June of 1983 she and her husband presented a memorial gift The Family of God Hymnal to the church a gift which brought her much enjoyment Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers Survivors include her husband five children Heather Nasi of Gallup NM Connie Walters of Villisca Dr Rex Wilhelm of Stuart Tom of St Charles 111 and Judy Havick of Nodaway 13 grandchildren two great grandchildren three sisters and two brothers Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca Aug 5 at pm with Rev Michael Roys and Rev Sarah Malone officiating Interment was in the Guss Cemetery Music was provided by Mrs Neal Gray organist and Mrs Bruce Nelson soloist The flower commit tee was Mrs Darrell Schrader and Mrs Paul Mit chell Mrs Robert Neal and Mrs Louis Riley were at the memory book Ushers were James Branon and Helmer Asklof Casket bearers were Robert Neal Darrell Schrader Louis Riley Paul Mitchell Joe Benedict and Fred Berggren WAVE MADDEN FITCH Carrie Wave Morris the daughter of Frank L Morris and Mary Lathrop Moms was bom Sept 12 1893 near New Market Iowa and departed this life Aug 5 1985 at California Con Hospital in Lamesa Calif at the age of 91 years 10 months and 24 days She received her education in rural schools in Taylor County and Bedford High School She attended sum mer school and received a teaching certificate after which she taught several years in Dallas Township Taylor County Iowa On June 181913 she was united in marriage with George H Madden To this union three children were born In 1919 they moved to Gravity Iowa where Dr Madden practiced veterin ary medicine until his death in 1932 The family con to reside in Gravity until December 1939 when they moved to Bedford Iowa Wave was elected and served as Taylor County recorder for eight years In 1948 she was united in marriage to Nathaniel W Martin who passed away in 1951 In 1953 ahe married John H Fitch who was deceased in 1960 In late 1960 Wave and her mother Mary Lathrop Wilson moved to Clarinda Iowa where she continued doing clerical work In 1973 she moved to San Diego Calif where her son Howard and family resided She lived at Wesley Terrace Retirement Home ten years and Gardens four months where she suf a cerebral stroke on June 191983 She was an active member of the United Methodist Church since childhood Also she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge over 60 years and she had served in many capacities in both organizations Those surviving to honor her memory are two daughters Helen Madden Van Deren end her husband Clyde of Eatonville Wash Floy Madden Wilmarth and her husband Donald of Cor ning Iowa and one son Howard L Madden and wife Claudia of San Diego Calif one stepson Glen Fitch and wife Yolanda Bonnie Mad den of San Diego Calif eight grandchildren thirteen greatgrandchildren other relatives and many friends Wave aspired to the finer things of life Her children Brand children and great grandchildren were absorb ing interests of hers and aha was faithful in her service to them and her fellowman Her hobby was and she always had a large flower garden wherever she lived and she enjoyed sharing them with her family and friends She composed poems memorized them and many Bible Scriptures during her life time This is one of her short prayers she had com posed Father above through Thy grace Help us be worthy to fill the place Thou givest us And to our best instincts be true With Thy kind help in all we do Amen Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and considerate person and she will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her A memorial fund has been established to the Bedford United Methodist Church Graveside Services were held Aug 8 1985 at am at Dallas Center Cemetery northeast of New Market Iowa with Rev Carl Cummings officiating Shum Novinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements Mary Armstrong of Cor ning and her sister Dorothy Abers of Sierra Vista Ariz arrived home last Thursday night from a 15 day central European tour They flew to Amsterdam where they joined the tour group They visited The Netherlands Germany went to Venice Italy and up across Swit They went through the corner of France Luxemburg and stayed in the last night and drove to Amsterdam Martha and Kyle Hancock arrived from Cleveland Ohio Aug 6 They spent the night with Marthas grand father Harry Coulter They left on Wednesday to visit her brother Paul in St Charles Mo and sister Miriam Mercer in Memphis Texas Mr and Mrs Terry Adams Julie Mandy and Emily of Montrose Colo flew to Hawaii where they attended Mrs Adams class reunion When they returned to Denver they got their car and drove to Corning Com ing at this time to attend the James family reunion While in they visited in the homes of Mrs Adams mother Esther Cook and her sister and husband Steve and Kay Kaunas and family Her sister Joy and husband Fred and baby of Virginia were also visiting in the Cook and Kannas homes They also visited in the home of Terrys parents Mr and Mrs Harvey Adams They left Aug 5 to return home Fall forcast A perfect way to say So Long to sum mer 31 Barry was a guest in the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Darrold Carpenter and Dicky visited in the Max Swartz home They left on Tuesday of last week to return to Georgetown Mary Thompson and daughter Kay of Georgetown arrived in Corning the same night and returned last Wed Mary and Kay were overnight guests of their mother and grandmother Leona Shepherd Mr and Mrs Alan Sun tken of Glenwood were Aug 2 weekend visitors in the home of Mrs mother Mary Alice Gauthier Alan returned to Glenwood on Sunday night but Cynthia remained here until Monday when her mother and grandmother Mrs Alice Rogers took her home Mr and Mrs Art Van Pelt of Cheyenne Wyo arrived in Corning the first of August and are visiting relatives and friends here including Mrs Grace Van Pelt of Corning Eva Booth enjoyed having her greatgrandchildren Amber and Ashlee Cooper spend Thursday evening with her Their parents Mr and Mrs Scott Cooper of Creston came to the Booth home later in the evening and had lunch with them The girls returned home with their parents The weeks fines Mrs John A Campbell of Prescott returned last week from a visit with her sister aad family Mr and Mrs Burton M Ruggles of Ky While there she attended the Ruggles family reunion The reunion also celebrated Mrs Haggles 95th birthday Family members of Mrs came from Pla St Louis Mo and Dayton and Columbus Ohio Jerry Keever and and Mr and Mrs Albert Hedinger arrived home Friday evening from a trip to visit their sister Eunice Beck of Littleton Colo Mrs Beck is moving to California the last of Aug ust While there they enjoy ed ice cream and cake at home of Mr and Mrs Ken neth Bickford Mr and Mrs AL Westfall were also guests Mr Westfall is a cousin of the ladies Florence Heaps returned Friday evening after visiting
