Published Grant VOLUME SIX NUMBER EIGHT PUBLISHED WEEKLY IN CEDAR RAPIDS By John Sinor LARGEST WEEKLY d yecS In Cedar Rapids out of town class age paid FEBRUARY 22 1967 Holidays Linger On are days in this man's castle I am still finding homemade here and there The type done in red crayon on ruled binder paper another one in my sock drawer this morning Most of these come from my two young daughters Both os these young ladies are so overloaded with sentiment it fairly drips I get an average of six or seven valentines from each of them every year They plant them around in different hiding places Sometimes they are still popping up on birthday This morning's Happy entine I Love You I love vou with my whole heart and hands and ces Truly Michelle Truly is only nine However I wish I could write like that Hidden Valentines and such ke the holidays linger on around here We're still not even through with Christmas entirely The girls got a small electric organ for Christmas The kind where you push the chord letters with the left hand and the note numbers with the right Anybody can play if you have a with the letters and numbers in it My daughters small book with the instrument And they practice faithfully every evening However they have learned on- ly one song by heart have learned Silent Every here we are on the edge of soft strains of Silent Night waft through the hallways of this old castle It's a lovely song at Christmas time But when you get well into February and when you hear it every it can grate the nerves I finally yelled up For crying out LOUD This was a terrible mistake For that is how all the crying is done around here Out I suddenly had a couple of females on my hands shed like flowers in a tender den by a bully in boots It took a lot of tact to get them blooming again It also took mise of a payoff for every song BESIDES Silent Night that they learned It takes a heap of this kind of tact for me to run a houseful of females A heap of tact a heap of loose change and an occasional jolt of Scotch Here's a Valentine memory that lingers on The eldest female in the household older wiser but as sentimental as the rest made entine nosegays for each of the children's teachers They are pretty delicate things A red heart a lace doily some ferns and a small carnation quet All wrapped in cellophane Now my children walk about 10 blocks to school each day ing books lunches pencils and such And on this nosegay But not ALL of my children Not my son who is fullback and considers himself as tough a product as the sixth grade has er produced He was not about to take one step out of that house carrying a I mean carrying it right down the street in With all the other kids and everything It was the most humiliating idea he had ever heard Finally his mother insisted Do something NICE for dy and quit worrying how YOU she insisted He was on the verge of tears Ownership Is Other Side Of Fence Freedom Week Observance Dairy Owner A Teamster 13 Yrs
