PAGES 2 SECTIONS Discovery Recount Likely State's 14th District John F Leon beaten by a mere 14 votes in his bid for a seat in the Illinois general sembly from the 14th district Tuesday told Community cations that he will request the rarely used discovery to de- mand a recount of tlhe Nov 5 election Leon who served three terms in the Illinois house from the 15th district before the Cook were realigned said he will confer with his yer and then will file for the discovery with the board of election commissioners within five days With such a close Leon said it is almost that I ask for the re- connt It appears now that can Jacob John Wolf will be sworn in along with incumbents Kenneth Course D and bert Geisler But the race between the two was decided by such a smal margin that it is almost a forgone conclusion that Leon will ask for dis- covery or recount The board of commissions Tuesday declared Wolf the winner by a scant 14 votes to L o n West-Northwest Side politicians believe this wonld be the first d i s c o ery demand involving any of the Chicago general assembly districts The last known recount which resulted in the unseating of an apparent winner occured six years ago the number of votes separating the two candidates is five per cent or less discovery may be requested Even using Wolf's optimistic figures the difference wonld be just a fraction over two per cent After asking for 25 per cent of the 14th district's 170 precincts would be ined and canvassed and then the issue would go to the house of representatives committee for a com- plete recount of the district This however is a long drawn out process which could as long as nine months to than a third of a general term in office If the discovery and quent recount show Leon to be the winner it will mark his fourth term in the Illinois house but his first as a of the 14th district Before the districts in Cook county were changed Leon was elected to three tive terms in the general sembly from the
