to 100 Pet By TED Wide variations in property assessments throughout the county a low of 9 to a high of 100 of market value were disclosed in Media Court on Wednesday The disclosure was made by Preas B Snyder professional appraiser and real estate broker during testi mony in the assessment appeal case before Judge Henry G Sweney Sweney expressed amaze ment at the astounding spread which also electrified the courtroom No Standard Percentage R Winfleld Baile Up per Darby School solicitor who had called Snyder to the stand the judge wanted to know if the board of assessments in making its assessments didnt use a standard percentage figure according to cus tom They use no percentage as far a ive can find out Baile replied The disclosure came at the close of the case which had continued over a week Attorneys will submit briefs after which Judge Sweney will hand down an opinion fixing the assessment for the million Upper Darby development Snyder one of six professional ap praisers who gave their opinions on the market value of the 1224dwell ing unit project told the court he had appraised some hundreds of properties in the township and nearby communities as an aid in arriving at his conclusions Since January 1950 he said he had placed values on 339 properties 295 of which Asked to break down the Snyder recited the appraisal and the assessment on each of the prop erties on his list showing the wide range Half of the 339 were assessed be low 291 of valuation and the other half ranged up to 100 there were flve properties he said which had that high assessment Income Tax 2 Ridley Twp Rejects Zoning Appeal for 208 Twin Homes Ridley Township Commissioners Wednesday night rejected an appeal by a building firm to change the zoning for 30 acres of the old Tully Secane Country Club from C residential homes could be built The plea was presented at a spe cial board meeting by John J OBrien representing Suburban Counties Realty Corp OBrien pointed out that the area In question is bounded on the north and west by row houses in Darby Township and on the south and east by a federal housing project OBrien firm planned to build semi detached homes selling for and up OBrien explained that the twin homes would look like single homes because one unit would have a front entrance while the other would have a side entrance He pointed out that the firm planned to allot
