of one of the most active fire fighting unite of the county turned back the pages of time a quarter of a century at its silver anniversary banquet Saturday night when old timers of the days when the company met In Floral Hall on Clifton avenue reminisced of the days and nights when they grabbed the dragrope of the and used manpower toget the apparatus to a tire I Robert G Curran who was the second chief of the company back in the olden times and who now lives in Laurel Springs N he is still a fireman although not on the active list spun a number or inter esting yarns concerning the manner and method of fighting the flames in the early days He said that in ine long ago they who belonged to a fire company were all firemen as everything depended on man power was held in the hai of the firehouse on Clifton avenue and was marked by n large gather ing of men and women of the bor William Sharpe one of the members of famous old minstrel trip of bygone days acted as toastmaster and song leader The festivities were opened with an invocation by the Rev Marion G Richard pastor of the First Lutheran Church of Miss Emma Leonhardt was at the piano for ho group singing Thomas J Campbell of Newtown Square president of the Delaware County Association praised Uie boys of Number One for being a jump ahead of all the rest of the county in anything it ever Of the Delaware County organization feer firemen the William E secretary of the county association who had to the festivities before they were ended because it was his twentieth wedding anniversary especially praised the past chief of the com pany and of fire depart ment presented a sliver cup to the organization for had the best equipped company In the recent pa the Sidney Stewart of the Philadelphia fire and police medical division spoke of his extreme satisfaction in in the first aid crew of Col Number One last winter To James S Carpenter went the calling the roll of the charter members of the com pany There were thirtyseven who signed the charter and of this num ber twentynine are still alive Those who answered roll call were Walter T Harry Bachers Robert Cur ran W T Collison William Toogood Andrew Patton George P Ren wick Robert G Mitchell and Robert Marsh Joseph B Glover and John S Dougan sent their regrets Each of the charter members who answered roll call was presented with a leather fold Mrs O P Griffin president of the ladies auxiliary presented the com pany with twentyfive crisp one dollar bills in behalf of the organization The acceptance was made by Leon Wright president of the company who was also chairman of the ban quet committee and who read a re port of a carnival given by the ways and means committee of the company in 1922 comparing the report with one presented following this years The affair in 1922 netted while the 1333 event netted up to the last meeting Mr Wright handed back two letters to members of the company which were sent by thm back in and which were laid on the table nt that lime never having been finally acted upon One WHS from Charles Locble resigning us chief nnd the other from Otto W Oakes as secretary The company has no use for these letters said President Wright in turning them back to their writers Others who spoke were Howard Frey captain ot Fire Company Number One who urged householders to observe great care now that the time
