the addition of a million laboratory facility The construction recently approved by the Cambrex Board of Directors includes 11500 square feet of laboratory space accommodating up to 40 scientists and engineers This new building will provide additional labo and research facilities to bolster the competitive position in todays pharmaceutical manufacturing market and enhance the lead role in the high Millions in Iraq reconstruction aid wasted WASHINGTON AP The US government wasted tens of millions of dollars in Iraq recon struction aid including scores of weapons and a camp for housing police trainers with an swimming pool investigators say The quarterly audit by Stuart Bowen Jr the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction is the latest to paint a grim picture of waste fraud and frustration in an Iraq war and reconstruction effort that has cost taxpayers more than billion and left the region near civil war The security situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate hindering progress in all reconstruction sec tors and threatening the overall reconstruction effort according to the report which was being released Wednesday Calling sectarian violence the greatest Challenge for the task Iraq Continued on page 3 DES MOINES AP Gov Chet Culver asked the Legislature on Tuesday to boost state spending by more than 7 per cent to pay for what he called historic increases in teacher salary and expansion of health care programs In a speech to a joint session of the Legislature Culver acknowledged that his budget hinges on a proposed per pack increase in the cigarette tax that has met with resistance from some lawmakers who back a smaller hike But Culver warned half measures wont even produce half the results Culvers budget would raise teacher pay by million spend million expanding health care and make a mil lion down payment on an Iowa Power Fund to expand the renewable fuels indus try The fact is we have hundreds of mil lions of dollars in health care related According to spokesman Alan Urlis a jumper wire that lines to the circuit on a power pole dis lodged during high winds at pm Monday As a result customers on the citys northeast side were left in the
