Lewis County and Give Taft a Big Majority Metropolis of Lewis County Casts Largest Vote in Its Officers Have Long and Tedious Weather Prevails Over Entire Defeated by Baker for Justice of the Peace in tralia and Hill Defeats Ingalls for Constable In spite of the forecast of the Seattle weather bureau man tho weather on was Instead of tho rain and storm that had been predicted Spring weather mild and balmy prevailed If the republican party had had tho ordering of tho weather they could not have improved on what nature had done It was a day brought out tho voters willc nille and when they were out voting was the most logical thing to do The news that republican weather prevailed throughout the country was very to the members of the party in this city Over one thousand to be cast in Centralia Unfortunately for the counters the voting was confined to three warily instead of being divided among six wards as will be the case in all f lure elections Tho counting of the votes in Ward No 1 was completed before noon on Wednesday but in tho other two wards the results were not known until late in tho ing During the last few hours the judges inspectors and had difficulty in keeping their eyes open and consequently the counting was painfully slow The first returns from the election commenced to arrive in Centralia about six o'clock and signified that Taft was running strong in New York state A large audience assembled at the opera house to witness the performance of Ma's New ind before the curtain was raised and between the acts Mr J K Lease was kept busy reading despatches from the various states While the despatches were meager and incomplete everything pointed to a republican landslide and the ligures indicating large pluralities for Mr Taft were received with cheers showing the republican leaning of the audience Large crowds gathered until a late hour at the Elks club Sam the Olympic club and at other places of popular resort There were no disturbing features to mar the friendly feeling that prevailed in spite of the disappointment the local nits suffered In it was very soon evident that the electoral vote was overwhelmingly republican and that the county candidates were running well up to their ticket with the exception of Mr Fishback for state senator who was being led by Mr HOKS Mr Thompson ran a little ahead of his ticket from tho start and Mr made an excellent showing against Mr Hatnaker The reports thai came in on Wednesday confirmed the reports of Tuesday night Chehalis and the country where Mr Fishback is well known Mr Hoss received a flattering majority of tho votes In the outlying precincts whore strictly party prevailed Mr Fishback received the majority that elected him The socialist vote was small falling far below the estimates made by tho leaders of the party In Centralia tho vote fell below 0 the predictions being The prohibition vote was small Centralia gave Taft a majority of about 700 and cast about of the total vote of Lewis county are the results of election in lurgi number of precincts of thip county It is not thought I hat the count will alter Centralia No I Taft disprove Hay 180 ITU Lewis 182
