Conservation District To Elect of the Casa Grande Soil Conservation District will go to tiie polls Saturday May 1 to elect two supervisors for the C R McGee and John Fearn incumbent supervisors appear The polls will be open from 8 to noon City To Request Transfer Of Airport To City City Clerk E M Pederson re ported to the City Council at their meeting Monday night that K C Quillman Airport Engineer for tte Civil Aeronautics Admin U S Department of Commerce informed the City that move hi regard to obtaining the Casa Grande Air port which has been declared excess is to officially request its transfer to the City under the provisions of Public Law No ISO Councilman L R Fabricant moved that the request be made immediately and the motion was seconded by Councilman J S Fanner and passed unanimous ly Adopt Hew Street Lighting The Council discussed a new lighting system for Second Street and additional lights for the res area The matter was tabled and the meeting recessed until Tuesday afternoon in order to receive suggestions from in citizens At the meeting Tuesday after noon the Council voted to sign a contract with the Arizona Public Service Company for a new light ing program It was agreed to install about 30 mercury vapor lamps in the business area of Second Street Which will provide lighting simi lar to that on Main Street in Mesa The new program is to start with lighting improvements on Second Street because it will be the new highway and improved lights will be extended into other parts of the business area as fast as the City can afford the cost Bowermans Shell Super Serv ice on the Tucson Highway at Brown Ave will have its grand opening on Friday Saturday and Sunday Although the station opened for business early in the year the grand opening has been crackdown on reported vio of the groundwater codes by farmers in the Casa Grande area and other parts of the state was ordered Tuesday by State Land and Water Commissioner Roger Ernst Ernst said that action in eight cases four of them involving Casa Grande farms had been held up because the Commission was waiting on Supreme Court decisions regarding the constitu of the 1948 Ground Wa ter Code and the 1953 Ground Water Act Since it appears that the Su will be unable to give a decision on either law for quite some time Ernst said his office would wait no longer in prosecuting under the provisions of the 1945 and 1948 laws Using funds made available by the recent legislature Ernst will hire three investigators to check on all wells in the socalled cal areas set up under the vari ous legislative acts Casa who are in volved in differences of opinion with the Commission are J A Paul M Brophy L S Steen and the Southwest Engi neering Co Ernst ordered a hearing of the Feam and Brophy
