Change Is Made In Next Hearing Set for 7 The proposed Buffalo Center School District met first test of upon the earing of objections at the Court House in Forest City on the vening of before the county boards of of Winnebago and Cossuth Counties acting as a ingle The meeting was well attended there were those inter sted in the proposed district and here were many objections filed and those objectors were present o be heard upon their t was the first such school hear ng in Winnebago County and aroused further in Other counties have had many such hearings and it is ex that Winnebago County vill be entirely organized into new district within the near fut This means that there will be several such hearings in the At the opening of the meeting and the reading of objections it was apparent that there was con resentment against Center as being over Buffalo ambitious and as seeking terri ory to which it was not the advocates of the hew Buffalo Center District promptly advised the joint boards that the petition was drawn and designed to take in the present district together with the additional territory that has long been served by the school within the existing transporta tion area and those other persons who had asked to be included that Buffalo Center could well get along with less territory than that shown upon the but that the purpose was to in clude all lands properly includ able leaving the boards to decide as to what lands should be delet ed or It was pointed out that no line could be drawn that would suit everybody and that there would be objections both ways and regardless of where the line might be It was made clear that Buffalo Center did not seek to infringe upon neighbors but that they did not want to exclude people who preferred to continue at joint boards to allocate a substan tial part of south Lincoln to Buf falo Center and this in turn might prevent Rake from form ing a new under the law and to allocate this same area to with no petition on would be a flat denial of the wishes of many people affected A somewhat similar situation was presented in south Grant where some people ex pressed a desire to be included with Buffalo Center and some asked to go to Crystal Lake and some asked to go to Some of these people expressed wish to go to Woden if a school district is set up and or at Woden and to go to Buffalo Center in the event that Woden is unable to form a dis Since Woden has not or and since there was the question of whether or not can meet the requirements of the law and organize a district it was most difficult for the people to decide and certainly for the joint boards to de cide where to draw a proper The boards were in session un til after midnight in an effort to establish lines that would best meet the wishes of the people and the requirements of the They finally established lines setting up the proposed Buffalo Center District along lines sug gested including parts of Lincoln Township and Grant but in view of the changes the meeting was adjourned until October for further con sideration of the Since the meeting Hancock county has adopted and publish ed a county plan which places Crystal Lake and Hay field within one area for possible organization including that part of Grant Township excluded from the Buffalo Center It remains to be whether Woden organizes a dis of its own or joins with Cry stal Lake and Hayfield and this in turn may affect the wishes of the people in south Grant Town Buffalo Center was the first P black lines above mark the area asked by Buffalo Center for their new school This lan was presented to the joint Boards of Education of Winnebago and Kossuth county After a careful study the boards cut the area down as is shown by the lines marked tendance at the Buffalo Center There is little gain in forcing people into school dis if they have a proper and legitimate reason for going else As was expected ame from the outside or fringe between the existing dis and those bordering upon here was very little controversy the line between the pro posed Buffalo Center district and he Lakota district because this ivas quite well stabilized and es between Buffalo Cen er and Lakota at the time of he formation of the new Lakota district and this was done simply y asking the people which way hey wanted to Neither side undertook to force any one else and the line was drawn in a very On the line between Buffalo Center and Thompson there were some some asking to come in and others to go but his line complied rather closely to the tentative county plan and modifications were only slight madei The greater number of objec tions concerned the line between the proposed new Buffalo Center district and a planned Rake dis although Rake has not yet filed petition calling for hearing and It is understood that Rake does plan to start these proceedings and that they hope to have the required 300 pupils within their in order to do this and have the re quired pupils Rake will require inclusion at the greater part if not all of Lincoln And it became apparent at this meet ing that for many years the Buf falo Center school has served a substantial part of south Lincoln Township and that those people ask to be included in the Buffalo Center district while others pre fer to be included within the Rake district if it can be This situation presented a cult problem for the joint To follow the expressed wishes of the people would require the consolidated school in the state of Iowa and has always maintained one of the best schools in this section of the It has serv ed a wide area because people have wanted their children to attend this school and have ex pressed a desire to For these reasons the area set forth to the boards looked large and seemed to impress our neighbors that Center was trying to be selfish at expense of these neighbors which is not the case at If any of these folks de sire and have a good reason to be included in some other dis they and pre sent their claims to the boards and by the same token those folks who want to continue with the Buffalo Center school should appear and express themselves so that the boards may draw the lines as closely as possible to the expressed wishes of the Buffalo Center will abide by the wishes of the people and the de of the They do not want to force anyone into the new district and neither do they want their friends and patrons Rally Day at Congo Church The Sunday School of the Con church will hold its annual Rally Day on A program will be giv during the by the children of the
