Administration Forces Confident of Victory in Precinct Meetings to DALLAS Texas April indications point to an overwhelm ing victory for the tion at the Texas precinct conventions next Saturday May 1 according to Chairman and Secretary Collins of the demo cratic committee They have issued the following statement As end of this campaign we desire to say to our friends that all indications point to an overwhelming victory for de Saturday We have a com plete organization in more than two hundred counties in the state and have had reliable reports from these counties upon which we base this statement The readiness with which democrats have responded to our call shows beyond question that the efforts of the opposition to dis rupt the party have met with gen eral disfavor throughout the state If our friends will attend the con next Saturday promptly at the place where and time called the opposition will meet with such a decisive defeat that no outsider will again have the temerity to come to Texas with the pose of destroying the party either by the organization of a new party or by fighting from within Let the democrats remember that these arc democratic conventions and none but democrats who are qualified voters are entitled to par in them Republicans so and members of the so called American party should be excluded if any such should pre sent themselves for participation in in May is certain It will bo as decisive as tho defeat of Jim Roed in Missouri or Hoke Smith in Geor gia In the precinct conventions next Saturday the indorsement of Wood row Wilson willbe overwhelming as will the indorsement Hoby as delegate at large to the national convention The sentiment as urg ed by Bailey will not prevail in more counties In these 30 arc included Harris Bexar and El Paso counties which are doubtful but where the Bailey machine is appar ently in control Majority 4 to 1 I have just completed a poll by lat ter of the counties bf tho state on en of Wilson and have re responses from 157 out of counties Of the 157 counties report ing 132 correspondents reported with reasonable assurance that the coun ties would go for an Wilson and Hobby and against Bailey These 132 give the endorse ment of Wilson 847 convention votes Twentyfive counties indicated the ac tion to be taken by tho county con is doubtful or will instruct favorable to Bailey These counties have a total of 209 convention votes The total number of votes in the state convention is 1400 The poll was taken among editors and newspaper correspondents and is the same list from which the poll was taken in tho cam in 1918 campaign for U S senator in 1916 From the poll taken in 1918 the figures forecast the election of Hobby over Ferguson by a majority of 250000 two weeks before the election In 191 G the fore for Colquitt over Campbell Brooks and Davis in the first primary I believe the poll taken this year is as accurate and as surely forecasts the result as it did in and 1918 Continued on page
