INDICTED Innocent Says Connally JACKSON Writer WASHINGTON AP John B Connally indicted for bribery perjury and piracy denies any guilt and says he will fight the charges The former Treasury tary was indicted Monday by a Watergate grand jury accused of taking two bribes from milk producers and then to cover up the payment wilh testimony I deny again thai I am guilty of any wrongdoing and I am confident lhal I will tely vindicated of these charges Connally said in a statement issued through his Houston law off ice For months there have been leaks rumors and speculation The matter is now in the open where it can be dealt with honestly and fairly Monday night Connally told the Dallas Morning News thai he was heartsick over the in- dictment We're going to keep fighting he said We're going to use every resource and we're going to win it We are not giving up said he wasn't surprised by the grand jury tion but he said he had kept thinking that it might not occur I'm saddened of the three-time Texas governor said I've been engaged in many campaigns for many years and there have never been any whispers or suspicions about my activities Cunnally is the fourth former member of President Nixon's Cabinet to lie charged with a crime He has hired noted criminal lawyer Edward nett Williams to run his defense The grand jury accused nally of two counts of bribery one count of conspiracy to truct justice and two counts of perjury He faces a maximum of 19 years in jail and in fines if convicted on all counts The grand jury accused Con- nally of taking two payments from his Writer The Berrien county tor's office intends to appeal an order by Berrien Circuit Judge William S White dismissing criminal narcotics charges against Dr Byung I loon Lee of Harbor The appeal may also affect criminal charges of delivery of amphetamines against Dr Durwood L Dill a Based on the court opinion in the Lee case the office moved this week o dismiss charges against Dill pending the appeal A preliminary examination had been scheduled to open today in district court on the charges Both doctors were arrested last March on charges of dis- drugs without proper procedure Dr Lee's
