female classmate tor her daughter last year and took every opportunity to make her daughters life a living hell She hated my daughter and we didnt know why Mrs Wang said The Piano ISD mother told her story at the Mean Girls to Bullies seminar on Tuesday at the district administration building The Piano PTA organized the discussion in tion with to address the problem of socially aggressive bullying by girls in their middle school years Marion Underwood a psychologist and professor at the University of Texas at Dallas who studies social aggression was the keynote speaker at the event Mrs Underwoods two daughters attend Harrington Elementary Ive always been fascinat ed by the dark side of chil drens interactions she said to laughter from PTA mem bers There are two types of aggression that female bul lies use to strike fear into the hearts of their victims she said While most of the focus has been on physical behav ior such as punching and kicking she said verbal abuse often has a longer lasting effect on its victims The truth is though that many bullies never hit she said They use other meth ods of aggression to show their contempt and social supremacy Social aggression is defined as harming a stu dent through verbal abuse using the threat of violence or threatening to ruin friend ships or the victims social standing at school Examples include spread ing a nasty rumor or giving friends the silent treatment Bullying is based on an imbalance of power and children are very aware of those classmates who have a higher status Mrs Underwood said Children start displaying legislative agenda passed last week By Brent Flynn Staff Writer The burglary of a motor cle can be much more than an inconvenience for its owner or a onetime financial bur den to replace a broken win dow or replace stolen proper ty In many cases the car bur glary is just the first step in a complex organized crime ring that uses identity theft to gain access to bank accounts and lines of credit Its an important issue for Dallas residents because motor vehicle burglaries were the most common crimes last year representing 26 percent of aller imes committed in the city The percentage is much higher in Bent Tree So far this year in Bent Tree there have been 66 car burgla ries representing 33 percent Bent Tree Woman Leads Area Girl Scout Council New resident takes charge of council encompassing area By Alien Houston Staff Writer When she was growing up in a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia Bent Tree resi dent Jameson earned a beekeeper badge from the Girl Scouts Thats what I loved about being in the Girl Scouts Mrs Jameson said There I was liv ing in the middle of a major city in a time when there werent very many options for young girls and I was able to get all of these great outdoor experiences The Philly girl never imag ined that she would one day preside over the fifthlargest Girl Scout council in the United States with more than 34000 Scouts in 20 counties Mrs Jameson just moved into the Preston Trails Fairway neighborhood from Orange County Calif to take over the reins of the Girl Scouts of Tejas Council located at Preston and Campbell It was a long route to the nonprofit for the Wharton School graduate who obtained a degree in political science with plans for a life in politics She whetted her appetite in the political arena by working with three of Wilmington Del and working of the 200 crimes committed The Dallas City Council is hoping that the state ture next year will make the crime a offense The council included the issue as a for started the meeting with a discussion of Computers Home a program that provides home computers to students replaces school computers every five years Two years ago began distributing these outdated computers to families who did not have home computers To date Computers Home has provided computers and personalized training to 1300 families at 44 campus es Any families with students in
